Job Description
Job Purpose Provides field direction for one or more pipe crews and executes project objectives; promotes safety, quality control and constructs the project through administrative direction of the Project Manager and Superintendent; as well as mentoring the tradespeople. Essential Duties Promote job site safety, create, and implement safe work practices. Perform daily safety checks. Provide leadership and supervise crews. Perform quality control inspections. Quantify materials needed for given tasks (i.e., Forms, pipes, nuts, bolts, etc.) Delegate tasks to crew members and hold them accountable. Complete understanding of labor budgets and productivity to accomplish scheduled activities on time. Record quantities daily. Organize materials, tools, and equipment. Willing to work overtime and out of town as needed. This Job description is not all-inclusive. Reporting Relationships The position reports to the Superintendent The position is a mentor for: Tradespeople. Position to work closely with Project Manager, Project Engineer Competencies Able to communicate technical information, conveying ideas or concepts to recommend or suggest, and/or develop solutions. Demands teamwork from the crew. Is self-motivated and has a good work ethic. Is looked to as a role model. Proficient at personnel development and recruiting field personnel. Keep up with current technology (Surveying, Tablets, Smart Phones, etc.) Promote job site safety, create and implement safe work practices. Perform daily safety checks. In-depth knowledge of construction procedures, safety requirements, equipment, and labor productivity. Excellent organizational and leadership skills. Excellent problem-solving and communication abilities. Proven development of tradesmen. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Formal apprenticeship training or equivalent experience is preferred. Journeyman improvement classes or equivalent experiences are preferred. Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write daily task planners and safety plans. Ability to speak effectively before customers or employees of the organization. Ability to communicate and understand requirements of various project types and to work with different personality types. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer Skills: Familiar with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and Viewpoint software, smartphones, tablets, and Total stations. Must be able to read and understand project drawings and specifications. Other Skills: Construction Knowledge- must have a thorough background and knowledge, skills, and abilities (self-perform) to plan and direct day-to-day work in a high-quality, professional & cost-efficient manner. Should be strong in an area of self-perform work including carpentry, concrete, sitework, mechanical systems, process equipment, process piping, and surveying.
