Job Overview Ward Timber Company is seeking a Wood Procurement Forester to buy timber in northeast Texas and southwest Arkansas from our office in Linden, Texas.Foresters will serve as the primary link between the company and private landowners, loggers, and local mills.Your mission is to secure high-quality timber while maintaining strict adherence to industry sustainable forestry standards.Duties Timber Acquisition:Locate and evaluate standing timber tracts; demonstrate proficiency in deed research and timber cruising to estimate volume, quality, and value.Purchase timber tracts aligned with company and landowner goals and industry sustainability standards.Negotiation & Contracting:Lead negotiations for timber purchases; negotiate contracts with landowners, ensuring timber harvest goals are met while fulfilling Ward Timber procurement requirements.Communication:As a timber buyer, you will directly communicate with logging crews, landowners, and local mills.Solid communication skills that support these relationships are essential.Logger Oversight:Supervise contract and company logging and road-building crews to ensure proper merchandising of timber, safety and environmental compliance.Computer Proficiency:Proficiency in Microsoft Office PowerPoint, Word, and Excel is expected.Timber and Wildlife Management.Foresters are also expected to possess an understanding of current silvicultural and wildlife habitat development practices to facilitate timber and wildlife management for private landowners and Ward Timber Company lands.These include but are not limited to site preparation actions and prescribed fire, and the planting of both hardwood and softwood timber.Join us in shaping sustainable forestry practices while advancing your career in a fast-paced procurement environment!
