Forestry Technician

Conduct comprehensive timber cruising, data collection, and reporting Accurately differentiate and classify standing timber product types (sawtimber, pulp, firewood, pallet, etc.) and report findings Execute pre-harvest preparations, including property mapping, timber sale boundary delineation, tree marking, and map creation Assess and document tract conditions, including waterways, slopes, existing skid trails, roads, and other factors affecting harvest potential and operability Evaluate tracts for alignment with Metzler Forest Products' timber harvest objectives Collaborate with the forestry team to optimize resource management and harvest planning Maintain accurate records and contribute to the development of forest management plans Assist in implementing sustainable forestry practices and environmental conservation measures Other duties as assigned by the Operations Forester or management team Associate's degree in forestry or 5 years of relevant field experience Comprehensive understanding of mechanical logging practices, procedures, and material classification Proficiency in mapping techniques, wildlife habitat assessment, and mechanical timber harvesting operations Valid state driver's license and clean driving record Demonstrated ability to identify tree species accurately Expertise in compass use and pacing techniques Proficient in GPS technology, map reading, and deed research Working knowledge of ArcGIS and Google Earth Competency in Microsoft Word and Excel Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent written and verbal communication abilities GPS, Map reading, and deed research Arc GIS, Google Earth Knowledge Must be able to use Microsoft Word and Excel..
