Job Description
Professional Philosophy In maintaining the integrity of, advocating for, and facilitating the implementation of Ross Montessori School’s Vision, Mission, and Core Values, the Preschool Teacher will: purposefully and positively represent RMS’ Vision, Mission, and Core Values to its members and the community; engage RMS community members and the broader community in supporting RMS’s goals; promote the Vision, Mission, and Core Values of RMS; encourage professional growth and provide professional leadership at the highest level. Position Overview Preschool teachers are entrusted with advancing the school's mission by supporting the Lead Teacher in developing, implementing, and assessing an authentic, standards-based Montessori curriculum. Teachers will help establish a harmonious and productive classroom. Teachers will be held accountable by the Preschool Director for their performance, growth, student achievement, and the quality of curriculum implementation. Responsibilities include the following: Support Preschool Children: Encourage the children to be independent and model appropriate manners and behaviors. Work with individual children or small groups as directed by the preschool director. Clean the classroom and replenish materials and supplies on a daily basis. Move around the classroom during the work period to ensure it remains clean, lively, and inviting. Make materials as required by the preschool director. Direct families with questions about their child to talk to the preschool director. Responsible for ensuring the children are supervised at all times, including in the classroom, on the playground, and field trips. Ensure the safety, comfort, and well-being of the children. Responsible for handling issues with children, staff, or parents, which may require meetings, conferences, or phone calls, and updating your supervisor the same day. Refer matters that are serious, questionable, or beyond your knowledge in any way to your supervisor. Assist preschool director in preparing and implementing assessments, conducting parent-teacher conferences, and covering staff if needed. Work with the preschool director to observe children in the classroom, both individually and as a group, and document and post photos and narrative descriptions as a record of activities and a tool for parents and staff in TSGold. Participate in the training process for new employees, guiding them in your classroom and referring to all preschool policies, procedures, and routines that pertain to your classroom. Participate in implementing and maintaining classroom tasks, such as animal care, afternoon chores, meals, and snacks. Commit to learning from your supervisor about the program. Understand the general responsibilities outlined in the employee handbook and lead the way, modeling for team members, children, and parents. Qualifications A commitment to personal and professional growth TSGold knowledge/training Must be able to meet the educational and experience requirements of the CO Dept of Early Childhood licensing agency At least two years of classroom experience is preferred. If not met, willingness to learn here. Must have three character references Must have current First Aid/Pediatric CPR Class (can be provided by Ross if needed) Must have a physical form signed by a physician Must be able to relate well to both children and adults The ability to provide stability for program continuity throughout the school year Skills Awareness and sensitivity to diversity in the student body, teaching staff, and family groups. Impeccable ethics, integrity, and trustworthiness. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive issues with professionalism, tact, and diplomacy. Have a firm commitment to upholding the school’s mission. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to listen and creatively problem-solve. Efficient and effective use of technology. Technical computing skills required include: Proficiency in Google Suite and PowerSchool. Efficient paper and electronic file management. Bilingual preferred.
