This role offers the opportunity to leave a visible, lasting impact on a beloved community space while working in a collaborative and supportive environment.We look forward to receiving your application.Position Summary The Gardener is responsible for the care and maintenance of flower beds, planters, landscaped features, and decorative green spaces throughout the Fairgrounds.This position focuses on plant health, seasonal planting, irrigation support, and visual presentation of garden areas, contributing to an attractive and welcoming environment for Fair visitors and year-round community events.This role does not serve as the primary lawn care position but may occasionally assist with general grounds support as needed during events.Primary Responsibilities Garden & Plant Care Plan garden and flowerbed designs.Coordinate purchases and donations with local greenhouses / nurseries.Plant and maintain flower beds, raised planters, hanging baskets, garden / greenhouse, and landscaped display areas.Monitor plant health, deadheading, and fertilizing as needed.Coordinate spring planting, summer upkeep, and fall cleanup / winterization of garden beds Occasionally assist with light grounds support during major events when needed.Equipment & Safety Safely operate small gardening tools and equipment.Maintain garden tools and report equipment needs or safety concerns.Follow all safety procedures and use personal protective equipment as required.Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent.Knowledge of gardening and plant care practices.Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 40 pounds and repetitive bending.Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.Previous experience in horticulture, landscaping, or greenhouse work.Preferred Knowledge of cold-climate plants and seasonal gardening in Interior Alaska conditions.Interest in landscape aesthetics and public-space beautification.Physical & Work Environment Requirements Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting.Outdoor work in variable weather conditions.Seasonal schedule fluctuations based on planting and event calendars.Core Competencies Attention to plant health and visual detail Strong work ethic and reliability Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Pride in maintaining attractive public spaces Flexibility during peak Fair and event seasons Job Type:Full-time Pay:From $17.00 per hour Benefits:Flexible schedule Paid time off Application Question(s):While we strive to minimize overtime, this position may require working more than 40 hours in a week and/or more than 8 hours in a day during the Fair season (June through mid-August).Overtime is paid in accordance with state and federal law.Are you willing and able to meet this requirement if selected?
