Summary As an AST, Experimental Facility Development (Lab Manager) with the Applied Manufacturing Division, you will be responsible for policies, procedures, operations schedules, resources, procurement, funding, and facility requirements for the Engineering Evaluation Laboratory. You will lead a team of highly skilled test engineers in the execution of spaceflight hardware acceptance and qualification testing and pursue opportunities for collaboration and funding. Duties Help Serves as the Lab Manager performing discipline specific duties including but not limited to, executing tests, training test engineers, generating and maintaining documentation, and overseeing day to day operations. Delivers quality and timely support that meets customer expectations. Reports directly to the Division Chief. Demonstrates skill in oral and written communication to logically and effectively explain issues related to all lab activities. Exercises independent engineering management and judgment to secure achievement of test goals and objectives. Provides leadership to coordinate and integrate the planning, programming, development, oversight, scheduling, and overall management of laboratory resources. Plans, coordinates, and manages the work of subordinate, secondary, and matrixed resources engaged in accomplishing the mission of the organization. Participates in preliminary scope reviews to help customers develop and define test requirements. Formulates and disseminates decisions for appropriate action to ensure compliance with approved customer requirements as well as center and agency requirements and goals. Performs independent assessments to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of the facility and provides recommendations to division leadership on process improvements. Qualifications In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level: Formulating laboratory operational protocols and business practices; Providing oversight of the design and development of data acquisition tools and test methods in support of spaceflight hardware acceptance and qualification level testing to ensure compliance with laboratory protocols and Center/agency requirements; Developing training plans, processes, and objectives to ensure spaceflight hardware testing is executed in accordance with customer requirements, as well as Center/agency requirements. Education Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following: Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Scien
