JOB Job SummaryThis position provides support for the City’s Geographic Information System (GIS) functions. An incumbent in this position may be designated “GIS Analyst I.” EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Essential FunctionsSupports and maintains the City’s GIS Enterprise operations, data, and online applications.Creates and manages geospatial datasets, maps, and related GIS services.Performs geospatial analysis and provides technical GIS support to all departments to support citywide initiatives.Works with SDE geodatabases, web maps, REST services, and map templates to support operational and strategic needs.Assists with GIS project planning, implementation, and coordination with staff and external consultants.Maintains GIS data and mapping resources for all City utilities.Participate in professional associations and continuing education training.Performs related duties as assigned. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Supervisory ControlsThe GIS Manager assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.GuidelinesGuidelines include GIS standard operating procedures, the Project Management Body of Knowledge, and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application. Complexity/Scope of WorkThe work consists of varied GIS development, operational, and maintenance responsibilities supporting a wide range of internal stakeholders.The purpose of this position is to provide high level support for the city’s GIS operations. Successful performance helps ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of a variety of City functions and services.This position is expected to use available resources to independently perform spatial analysis and related tasks with minimal supervision.ContactsContacts are typically with coworkers, other city personnel, contractors, vendors, and members of the general public. Contacts are typically to exchange information, motivate persons, resolve problems, and provide services. Physical Demands/ Work EnvironmentThe work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table, with occasional trips to the field to help and train field personnel.The work is typically performed in an office.Supervisory and Management ResponsibilityThis position may have functional supervision over assigned functional team members.Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree with major course work in Geography, GIS, computer science, or a related field. Two years of professional experience working with ArcGIS Pro, sde geodatabases, and geospatial analysis. GISP preferred.
