JOB Geographic Information System (GIS) TechnicianInnovation & Technology Department4X10 Workweek: Monday – Thursday 7:00 AM – 6:00 PMOpen: 05/07/26 Closed: 05/24/26 The City of San Jacinto is seeking a customer centric, technically skilled, team player with excellent interpersonal skills to fill the position of Innovation & Technology GIS Technician. Under the direction of the CIO this entry level position is responsible for providing technical support, installation, and maintenance of GIS related software, hardware, and network applications or processes. Incumbents will prepare and track help desk related requests as well as assist in hardware and software research, acquisition and ordering. Performance expectations include the application of acquired job skills and procedural knowledge to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues of moderate scope and complexity. The work requires customer service skills as frequent contact with end users and coordination of multiple concurrent activities is an essential job duty. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the following essential functions: Under general supervision and direction from the CIO, this position performs routine to moderately difficult technical duties in the operation and use of the City’s Geographic Information System (GIS); maintains and updates layers of the GIS; collects, interprets, verifies and processes Geospatial data; prepares digital and hard copy maps and online services; configures, installs, maintains, and updates GIS related software; works on projects assigned by the CIO supporting technology implementations; assesses user training needs and trains users in effective use of applications as appropriate; and performs other duties as required.Performs routine to moderately difficult GIS data maintenance, manipulation, analysis, extraction and generation assignment.Performs GPS data collection, interpretation, field verification, processing and maintenance duties.Organizes and stores GIS data in geodatabases and arranges for access by other users.Research and input map and attribute data to construct geographic information systems; verify accuracy and correctness of data sources.Prepares, designs, updates, and produces a variety of maps, including online web maps and applications, atlases, and other graphic representations displaying GIS data layers.Develops and maintains spatial and geographical data layers using GIS and cadastral tools and databasesIncorporates maps, charts, data, and text into reports.Assists in resolving and troubleshooting GIS-related problems and requests.Prepares training materials and provides training to end users.Manipulate database and map layers to produce customized reports, maps, exhibits, displays and other geographic data for a variety of city-wide requests.Maintain electronic narrative (written) documentation relative to data input procedures, data structures, and work progress.Other Job-Related Duties Performs related duties or responsibilities as assigned. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Work Authorization/Security Clearance Must complete post-offer/pre-employment Department of Justice finger printing and background screening. Work authorization as required by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is mandatory within three business days of hire.Disaster Service Worker Requirements Under California Government Code Sections 3100 - 3109, public employees are designated as disaster service workers.
