Job SummaryJoin the Pete's Greens team as a Greenhouse Assistant to work while learning the craft of year round vegetable production in a cold climate! This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in greenhouse production, organic farming, and outdoor plant care.As a Greenhouse Assistant, you will support daily operations by assisting with plant maintenance, irrigation, and general greenhouse management.Pete's Greens is a year round organic vegetable farm with nearly 4 acres of greenhouse and over 130 acres in the fields.In this role you will train to gain the experience to lead the management of our greenhouses.Responsibilities Assist with watering and irrigation systems to ensure optimal moisture levels for all plants Support seeding, planting, transplanting, pruning, and harvesting activities within the greenhouse and on the farm Identify various plant species and monitor their health, growth, and development Operate hand tools and basic mechanical equipment safely and efficiently for plant care and maintenance Help with soil preparation, fertilization, and pest control to promote healthy growth Perform heavy lifting of plants, soil bags, or equipment as needed for daily tasks Maintain cleanliness and organization of the greenhouse environment to promote safety and efficiency Work in our washhouse on Tuesdays packing CSA shares whenever needed and work in washhouse packing veggies any day that GH or field work is needed.Skills Growing experience with plants, including knowledge of horticulture practices Familiarity with greenhouse operations and outdoor gardening techniques Hands-on experience with farming, landscaping, or agriculture activities Mechanical knowledge to operate hand tools and small equipment effectively Ability to identify different plant species and assess their health needs Basic math skills for measurements, calculations, and record keeping Physically capable of heavy lifting and performing outdoor work in various weather conditions Spanish is a plus!
