Job Description

Summary : Responsible for the operation of the Deli Department in the absence of the Deli Manager. To assist with training and demonstrating staff to be safe, friendly, and efficient. Providing leadership and motivation within Market on Melrose, to ensure consistent and world-class customer experiences through the superior show of quality and friendly customer service. To assist with ensuring product is properly stocked and fresh in the Deli Department and that the departmental operations is maintained to meet department standards. Essential Functions: Assist Deli Manager with maintaining Deli Department’s staffing, scheduling, and deli inventory. Plan, organize and supervise the inventory process. Assist Deli Manager with ensuring proper pricing, weighing, packaging, and displaying of merchandise through audits in the Deli Department. Works with Deli Manager, General Manager and Receiving Department to maintain product level and conditions needed associated with vendor product. Perform product preparation, stocking, and guest service as necessary to achieve department standards. To assist maintaining desired level of inventory and supplies to maximize sales, minimize excessive inventory, and note of any discrepancies in inventory. Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads. Maintain knowledge of products sold within the Deli Department and be able to respond to questions and make recommendations about products. Offer product samples to help customer discover new items. Provides world-class customer service throughout the store; use the tag line “Thank you for Choosing the Market on Melrose” at every opportunity. Assist Deli Manager ensuring the Deli Department runs in compliance with all federal, state, and local statutes, regulations, and company policies. Partners with Leadership and other department to effectively train and develop team members. Acts as a resource for team members in their roles. Adhere to safety guidelines that protect company assets. Ensures and maintains a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines; ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are up to standards. Assist with reinforcement of safety programs by complying with safety procedures, identifying unsafe conditions, practicing preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment, notifying upper management of any items in need of repair and of customer or employee accidents. Coordinates, collaborates, and communicates with all staff members of the Deli Department. Participates in required trainings. Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested. Minimum Qualifications: Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication and customer service skills Solid understanding of store operations required Ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements of the job. Leadership experience with direct reports. Ability to use technical information to solve problems Must be at least 18 years old. Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations Must have open availability and able to work all hours of operation. Provides and facilitates effective written and verbal communication to Deli Manager, General Manager, Support Services, and team members. Must be accredited by the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals or similar accrediting organization as a “Certified Food Safety Manager” or be willing to attend company provided training and have the ability to achieve accreditation within the first 90 days of employment; Accreditation must be maintained while employed in position. Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Experience: One or more years of supermarket management experience. High school diploma or GED certificate required. Any deli/retail experience. Special Requirements: A cell phone is required for employment, as access to applications and/or resources may be limited unless a cell phone is used for authentication. A valid driver’s license and the ability to provide proof of insurance is required to drive a personal car on company business. Physical Requirements: Ability to use handheld computers for orders, mark downs, scan outs, and invent
