Job Description
POSITION:Wean-Finish Specialist (Swine Herdsman), Full-time (7 days/week rotating schedule) OVERALL OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSE:The Wean-Finish Specialist is responsible for performing production tasks in various employer-owned and/or -operated wean-finish sites to optimize animal care, health and efficiencies, in a manner which upholds Vroman Farms standards related to animals, equipment and facilities.The role involves performing tasks related to animal husbandry, health management, feeding and facility maintenance to ensure the highest standards of swine production.This position is located approximately 12 miles southeast of Marshall, MN.Specifically, the Wean-Finish Specialist is responsible for the following:Animal Care:Walk through assigned sites to monitor herd health and welfare Provide care of animals, ensuring access to water, feed and proper environment Communicate with supervisor regarding herd health issues Monitor settings of feeders at assigned sites Monitor feed bin levels of assigned sites, including climbing bins to accurately determine feed levels, coordinate with supervisor and feed department on ordering and feed issues Assure proper watering of animals at assigned sites Treat and work with sick and injured animals Vaccinate animals Respond to alarm calls of assigned sites; if unable to physically respond, notify appropriate personnel Maintain biosecurity protocols Assist in loading and emptying of barns Cleaning and disinfecting barns Ensure proper handling and removal of dead animals in a timely manner and ensure biosecurity protocols are met Maintain appropriate documentation for assigned sites, including hi/low temperatures, numbers treated, withdrawal times, medicine usage, deads, etc.Equipment and Facilities:Ensure proper barn ventilation, understand how to adjust controllers Maintain company standards related to site cleanliness and appearance including but not limited to barn area, office area, parking area, driveways, pest and rodent control, general yard work including but not limited to lawn and weed control Test site generators and record results weekly Ensure alarm systems are working properly and are tested weekly Report any findings of pit foaming or crusting to supervisor Perform general barn maintenance and upkeep to ensure animal welfare and health; notify supervisor when unable to perform necessary barn maintenance The preceding statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned this classification.They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed.WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:Position may involve non-standard business hours.Weekend and holiday work rotations as established by supervisor as daily, continuous care for living animals is required.Flexible workday hours.Weekly hours may vary depending on barn schedules.Ability to work in indoor hog barn environment with loud noises, odors and varying temperatures.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Ability to stand, walk and be on feet 8 to 10 hours per day Frequent bending, reaching, squatting and kneeling; use of one or both hands/arms to grasp or pull; frequent lifting of objects weighing up to 50 lbs; occasional bending while pulling and/or lifting objects weighing up to 100 lbs.Must be able to print and/or write legibly Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Must have reliable method of transportation with valid U.S.driver's license and a clean driving record.When operating company vehicles, must adhere to all company vehicle policies and follow all local, state and federal regulations associated with operating a motor vehicle.Must be able to obtain and maintain Pork Industry's PQA certification status Demonstrate values of integrity, respect, excellence and adaptability Advocate and engage in animal welfare policy, including promoting animal well-being, remedying circumstances which impede animal care, and properly reporting instances of mistreatment or abuse Maintain and promote a safe working environment Additional duties may be assigned as they arise.Experience:Candidates with prior experience working in wean-finish facilities preferred although not required.On the job training for the right candidate will be offered.SALARY:Expected starting range $880/week depending on experience and skill level, with opportunities for increases based on performance.Benefits:Paid Single Medical insurance; Family Health Coverage available Flexible schedules Employer employs individuals at will.Any employee has the right to end his/her employment at any time without notice or cause, and the employer also has the same right.I understand that if offered employment, it shall be expressly conditioned on my successful completion of pre-employment background and employment reference checks, and such conditions as may be required by law and/or by employer.The Federal Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires that an INS Em
