Western Groundworks LLC is hiring an experienced HDD Locator / Directional Drill Locator for underground utility and fiber optic construction projects in the Austin, TX area. We are looking for a dependable locator who can work with a directional drill operator and crew to safely complete bores, street crossings, conduit installation, and telecom/fiber optic construction work. This position requires someone who understands underground construction, can communicate clearly with the drill operator, and can help keep the job moving safely and efficiently. Local Austin-area candidates are preferred. This position is for local work in and around Austin, and per diem is not guaranteed. Responsibilities Locate and track the drill head during horizontal directional drilling operations Communicate clearly with the drill operator throughout the bore Monitor depth, pitch, direction, and bore path Help avoid existing utilities, obstacles, and unsafe conditions Read basic job plans, bore profiles, and utility markings Assist with potholing, exposing utilities, conduit placement, pullbacks, and jobsite setup Help maintain a safe and clean jobsite Inspect locating equipment and report issues Work as part of a 4-man underground utility crew Follow company safety procedures and project requirements Experience Needed HDD locating experience preferred Experience with underground utility, fiber optic, telecom, or conduit installation preferred Ability to use locating equipment and communicate readings accurately Knowledge of utility markings and safe digging practices Ability to work outdoors in Texas weather Must be dependable, on time, and willing to work as part of a crew Must be able to lift materials, walk job sites, and perform physical labor when needed Preferred Qualifications Previous experience locating for Vermeer, Ditch Witch, or similar directional drills Experience with fiber optic conduit installation Experience with street crossings, neighborhood utility work, and telecom construction Valid driver’s license preferred CDL is a plus, but not required Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus Schedule Full-time Monday to Friday Overtime available as needed Weekend work may be required depending on project schedule Pay: $21.00 - $30.00 per hour Application Question(s) What locating equipment have you used?
