Serve as Head Coach for the Cheer team at California Baptist University by performing the following duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Understand and agree to abide by the mission of CBU and the CBU Athletics Department. Instruct athletes with sound principles and expertise in skill development, training and strategies to achieve success. Has knowledge of game rules and Conference and NCAA regulations and implements these rules on a consistent basis. Display good sportsmanship in relationship with students, staff, officials and opponents as consistent with NCAA policies regarding the principle of sportsmanship and ethical conduct. Motivate team for maximum performance by utilizing motivational philosophies that meet the needs of the students and that are consistent with the CBU Athletic Program philosophy. Provide instruction and spiritual guidance that will lead to positive values, acceptable behavior, and self-discipline consistent with the philosophy of CBU athletics. Participate in various fundraising, marketing and promotion activities. Oversee and assign assistant coach specific duties, supervise the assignments, and complete proper evaluations at the end of season. Responsible for submission of yearly budget to Athletic Director and keep current on all team expenditures to ensure compliance with team budget. Works with Director of Spirit Program and Sport Supervisor in setting goals and objectives for the Athletic Department. Acts in a wise and prudent manner within all aspects of the program. Effectively manage time in a demanding work environment. Within the framework of CBU, recruit and evaluate prospective student-athletes who are of the level necessary to be successful academically and athletically. Recruit and retain a minimum of 50 student athletes, combination of 25 for game squad and 25 for competitive team. Responsible for the supervision of the team at all practices, training sessions, games, and any other extracurricular activity which is relevant. Respond to all administrative correspondence in the requested timeframe and attend all staff meetings. Complete various program duties such as uniform ordering, scheduling team activities, alumni events, game day/half time performances and other duties as assigned. Organize cheer clinics to be used for recruitment and/or performed during game day. Arrange one home cheer showcase and submit travel paperwork and NCAA pass lists when necessary. Adhere to all institutional, conference, USA Cheer and NCAA by-laws and regulations. Ensure the physical, emotional, and social welfare of student athletes. Establish and ensure a safe environment for all team members. Supervisory Responsibilities Directly supervises assistant cheerleading coach. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Interview and train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; discipline employees; address complaints and resolve problems. A thorough knowledge of: Business English and arithmetic; general office methods, procedures and practices. Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate multiple projects. Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position. Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information. Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body. Ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Strong organizational skills and detailed oriented. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
