Heavy Diesel Transportation Mechanic Reports to: Fleet Manager Location: Delray Beach, FL Type: Full-Time | Onsite | Non-Exempt Seeking candidates who are able to work a mid-shift schedule. Position Summary The duties and responsibilities of the Heavy-Duty Truck Technician include a variety of repairs to the company's fleet of commercial trucks and trailers. This position reports directly to the Fleet Manager. Job Duties and Responsibilities Perform diagnostics, repairs and maintenance on trucks and trailers Knowledgeable in the safe operation of all garage tools, diagnostic equipment, lifts, hoists, and jacking equipment Adhere to the manufacturer's warranty policies and procedures Consistently capable of independently analyzing and safely resolving problems Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues in heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and equipment Perform preventative maintenance, including oil changes, brake adjustments, tire repairs, and fluid checks Conduct detailed inspections of engines, transmissions, steering, suspension, and braking systems Utilize diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot and identify necessary repairs Perform welding, fabrication, and other mechanical tasks as required Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts usage, and maintenance schedules Adhere to safety standards, environmental regulations, and company policies Respond to emergency roadside service calls when needed Stay current with new technology, tools, and repair techniques in the diesel and heavy equipment industry. Working Conditions Indoor and Outdoor Settings for a repair shop include: Maintenance bays- can be noisy, drafty, hot, or cold depending on facility climate control May work in an office or parts area for ordering parts, completing paperwork, or entering diagnostic data Yard or lot maintenance areas and occasionally roadside or field work (repairing vehicles outside the shop) Exposure to weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, wind) Physical Requirements Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy objects frequently; typically, 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs with assistance or mechanical aids. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the work shift. Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and squatting to access vehicle components. Ability to climb ladders, steps, and vehicle frames, and work at heights using lifts or platforms. Frequent use of hands, wrists, and arms for gripping, twisting, turning, and operating hand and power tools. Ability to work in confined or awkward positions, including under vehicles or within engine compartments. Sufficient manual dexterity, coordination, and fine motor skills to perform detailed mechanical repairs. Ability to reach overhead, at waist level, and below the knees repeatedly. Visual acuity to read gauges, diagnostic equipment, schematics, and work orders. Able to work a mid-shift schedule with flexibility with Saturday rotation. (1 Saturday every 3 weeks) Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalent; technical school or vocational training preferred. Minimum of 35 years of experience as a diesel mechanic (heavy-duty required). Strong knowledge of diesel engines, diagnostics, hydraulics, and electrical systems. HVAC 608/609 required with experience with Thermoking/Carrier Reefer Trailers. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams. Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment. CDL license preferred (or ability to obtain). ASE Certification(s) or manufacturer-specific training a plus. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving ability. Physical ability to lift to 75 lbs., stand for long periods, and work in various weather conditions.
