Job Description
JOB Build Safer Roads. Keep Communities Moving.Sheboygan County is seeking hardworking, safety-focused individuals to support seasonal and as-needed highway maintenance operations. In this role, you’ll help keep county roads safe and well-maintained through snow and ice removal, roadway maintenance, equipment operation, construction support, and infrastructure repair.If you enjoy hands-on work, operating heavy equipment, working outdoors, and making a direct impact in your community, this is a great opportunity to join our team. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES As part of our highway maintenance team, you will operate and maintain a wide variety of equipment and assist with seasonal road and infrastructure projects throughout the county. Responsibilities include: Winter OperationsOperate snowplows, graders, loaders, sanders/salters, Oshkosh trucks, and related equipmentPerform snow and ice removal, bridge cleaning, and drift preventionInstall, repair, and remove snow fencingMaintain drainage systems and steam frozen culvertsPrepare and maintain winter maintenance equipmentSummer OperationsHaul materials for paving, ditching, milling, and seal coating projectsPerform pothole repair, culvert replacement, shouldering, crack filling, and blacktop repairConduct mowing, brush and tree removal, sweeping, landscaping, and roadside maintenanceAssist with traffic control setup, lane closures, detours, and work zone safetyEquipment & Facility MaintenanceOperate and maintain heavy equipment including graders, bulldozers, backhoes, tractors, and paving equipmentPerform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and toolsSupport crusher, asphalt plant, and centerline painting operationsAssist with building maintenance, repairs, and paintingTeam & Safety ResponsibilitiesFollow all roadway safety standards and Department policiesInspect roadways and report maintenance concernsRead and interpret construction plans and specificationsFill in for supervisors or foremen as neededWork collaboratively across crews and operations SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION This position works in both indoor and outdoor environments year-round, including construction sites and roadways. Employees must be able to: Frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 poundsWork in varying weather conditions and temperaturesStand, walk, climb, kneel, crouch, and operate heavy equipment for extended periodsWork flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency weather events
