Job Description
Program: Supportive Services for Veteran Families Position: Homelessness & Prevention Services Director Reports to: Vice President of Georgia Operations FLSA Status: Exempt Function: Effectively provides day-to-day management and administration for team SSVF staff that provides accessible, gender and culturally-appropriate services for veterans and their families identified by the program, with a specialization in homelessness prevention, rapid re-housing and traditional supportive services. Develop and monitor the appropriate use of key linkages for veterans and their families that overcome barriers to access and address intake, assessment, service planning, service delivery and goal achievement for attainment of maintenance of permanent housing. The position will provide leadership for the team, especially training, supervision, problem-solving for difficult or stuck cases, and case review. Oversee appropriate use of partnerships, linkages, advocacy and wraparound supports and services in the community. Measure and assess impact of services and supports and participate in CQI efforts. Qualifications: A master’s degree in education, counseling psychology, rehabilitative counseling, or related human service field, but a bachelor’s degree may substitute upon review of other experience critical to homeless veterans and their families. Three years’ supervisory experience required. Veteran or member of a veteran family is preferred. Principal Activities: Ensure that program is in compliance with the rules and regulations of licensing and funding agencies, and in accordance with Volunteers of America Policies and Procedures. Promote the HPRP/Housing First model of service delivery. Develop and promote an awareness of critical barriers to attaining or maintaining permanent housing, and rapid response to those barriers including assistance with legal services as allowable. Integrate high priority veterans into services where they may engage in comprehensive transition planning, especially veterans at 30%-50% AMI, returning from OEF/OIF/OND, with behavioral health problems, physical impairments, and other issues. Communicate effectively with referring agencies, the VA and community entitlement programs, treatment providers and collateral agencies to rapidly address and correct issues with service supports – especially benefits assistance, living skills, and employment. Ensure that staff works veterans and their families to measure and assess the impact of services that support homelessness prevention and rapid re-housing; from assessment to service planning, delivery and review. Provide program and professional supervision, lead required staff and Project Management Team meetings and trainings, monitor program outcomes (e.g., Family Service Plans, HMIS reports; program budget, and other restrictions/requirements as issued in the grant award), and promote team-based collaborative planning. Complete other duties as assigned. Effect on End Result: Goals and objectives of the program are addressed, measured and reviewed. Staff is provided support to implement program policies and procedures. Planned services are delivered within the scope of the team’s resources and budget. Critical stakeholders have access to the program and input into its operations. The team produces meaningful outcomes and measured results. Language skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret, common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write communications and memorandums that conform to prescribe style and format. Must have the ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors.
