About The Root The Root is a thoughtfully curated plant and lifestyle shop dedicated to bringing high-quality greenery and natural design into homes and outdoor spaces.We are passionate about plant care, education, and creating a welcoming environment for our community.Position Summary The Part-Time Horticulturist is responsible for the care and maintenance of both interior and exterior plants, ensuring all greenery remains healthy, vibrant, and visually appealing.This role supports day-to-day plant care operations, assists customers with plant-related questions, and contributes to the overall presentation and success of the shop.Core Responsibilities Care for and maintain interior and exterior plants, including watering, pruning, fertilizing, and general upkeep Monitor plant health and proactively identify and address issues such as pests, disease, or environmental stress Maintain cleanliness and organization of plant displays, workspaces, and outdoor areas Assist with receiving, staging, and rotating plant inventory Support seasonal exterior plant care and upkeep, including container arrangements and outdoor displays Provide knowledgeable, friendly guidance to customers on plant selection and care Assist with basic merchandising and display setup to ensure an inviting retail environment Communicate plant care needs, inventory concerns, or issues to leadership Essential Skills & Experience Experience with plant care, horticulture, or a related field (interior and/or exterior) Knowledge of common plant species, care techniques, and troubleshooting Strong attention to detail and consistency in plant care routines Friendly, approachable demeanor with strong customer service skills Ability to work independently and as part of a small team Reliable and organized with good time management Working Conditions Part-time position based in Scituate, MA Combination of indoor retail and outdoor work in varying weather conditions Ability to lift up to 30-50 lbs as needed Frequent standing, bending, lifting, and reaching Hands-on, active role in a fast-paced retail environment Pay:$22.00 - $24.00 per hour Benefits:Employee discount Flexible schedule Experience:professional plant care:1 year (Required) Ability to Commute:Scituate, MA 02066 (Required) Work Location:In person.
