Job Description
At Trailwinds, we believe spiritual care is not about having all the answers. It is about presence, listening well, honoring what matters most to each person, and walking alongside patients and families during some of life’s most meaningful and vulnerable moments. We are looking for a Spiritual Counselor who brings compassion, emotional steadiness, humility, and a deep respect for the individual beliefs, values, and experiences of the people we serve. This role is an important part of our interdisciplinary team and helps ensure patients and families feel seen, supported, and cared for as whole people. What You’ll Do Provide spiritual and emotional support to patients and families in a way that honors their beliefs, values, culture, and personal experiences Offer supportive counseling, reflective listening, prayer, rituals, or other forms of spiritual support when desired by the patient or family Participate as an active member of the interdisciplinary team, collaborating closely with nurses, social workers, aides, volunteers, and physicians Help patients and families navigate spiritual or existential concerns Support patients and families with calmness, compassion, and presence Provide education and support to teammates related to communication, spiritual care, grief, and cultural sensitivity Participate in memorial events, community outreach, and grief-related programming when appropriate Document spiritual care visits clearly and thoughtfully in the medical record Help foster the kind of environment where patients, families, and teammates feel supported, respected, and cared for What We’re Looking For Strong listening and communication skills with the ability to connect authentically with people from diverse backgrounds and belief systems A calm, grounded presence and the ability to remain emotionally steady during difficult or emotionally charged situations Understanding of hospice philosophy and a genuine passion for supporting people at end of life Experience providing spiritual counseling or chaplaincy Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also practicing independently Respect for differing perspectives, beliefs, and traditions Thoughtful documentation and organizational skills A compassionate and humble approach to care Trailwinds is locally owned, community rooted, and deeply committed to providing care that feels personal, present, and human.
