Job Description
MYR Group, a national electrical contractor specializing in transmission, distribution, and commercial/industrial construction, is seeking a Legal Counsel to support our Legal & Regulatory Compliance department. In this role, you will provide practical, business-focused legal guidance to help deliver innovative electrical construction solutions safely, on time, on budget, and to the highest quality standards. As Legal Counsel, you will serve as a key advisor to project managers and operational leaders across MYR Group’s construction portfolio. You will draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of construction-related contracts, including prime contracts, subcontracts, purchase agreements, and professional services agreements, ensuring that terms align with company objectives and appropriately manage risk. You will advise on contract interpretation, change management, claims, and dispute resolution, helping project teams keep work progressing smoothly while protecting the company’s legal and commercial interests. You will play an important role in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting the electrical construction industry, including those related to safety, licensing, procurement, and employment practices. Working within the Legal & Regulatory Compliance department, you will help develop, implement, and improve policies, procedures, and training that support MYR Group’s culture of safety, quality, and teamwork and promote consistent compliance across all projects and business units. This position involves close collaboration with project management, operations, risk management, and other internal stakeholders. You will help identify and mitigate legal and contractual risks associated with new and ongoing projects, including advising on insurance and bonding requirements, indemnity provisions, and limitation-of-liability clauses. You may assist in managing disputes, claims, and litigation, including coordinating with outside counsel and supporting the collection and organization of project documentation. The ideal candidate brings solid experience in construction law or complex commercial contracting, strong contract drafting and negotiation skills, and the ability to translate legal concepts into clear, actionable advice for non-lawyers in the field. In return, MYR Group offers the opportunity to work on impactful electrical construction projects nationwide within a supportive, team-oriented environment that emphasizes safety, quality, and long-term career growth.
