Job Description
The HR Business Partner supports a multi-site property management organization, including union and non-union employee populations, by providing compliant, consistent, and effective human resources guidance. This role requires the exercise of independent judgment and discretion in the performance of HR responsibilities and is strategic in scope with a strong emphasis on compliance, leave administration, and risk mitigation. The HR Business Partner partners with leadership to ensure adherence to employment laws, collective bargaining agreements, and company policies while supporting core HR generalist function Essential Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are representative of the essential functions of the position. Other duties may be assigned based on business needs. Employee Relations, Leave Administration & Labor Compliance Provide guidance to managers and leadership regarding employee relations matters, performance management, corrective action, and attendance issues Conduct workplace investigations and support disciplinary processes in accordance with company policy and applicable law Administer and manage employee leaves of absence, including FMLA, New York Paid Family Leave, ADA accommodations, workers’ compensation, and other statutory or company‑provided leaves, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance Coordinate leave administration with payroll, benefits providers, managers, and third‑party administrators as applicable Support union-related matters, including grievance processes and contract interpretation, in collaboration with leadership and legal counsel Ensure consistent application of HR policies, attendance standards, and leave practices across union and non-union populations Recruiting & Onboarding Manage full-cycle recruiting for property-level and corporate positions Partner with hiring managers to identify staffing needs and ensure compliant hiring practices Oversee onboarding processes and ensure completion of required employment, eligibility, and compliance documentation Benefits Administration & HR Operations Administer employee benefit programs, including enrollments, qualifying life events, employee inquiries, and vendor coordination Support benefit continuation and reinstatement related to leaves of absence Maintain accurate, confidential, and compliant employee records Compliance & Policy Management Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including wage and hour, leave administration , and employee classification requirements Assist with audits, reporting, and documentation requests related to benefits, leaves, and employee status Support the development, communication, and enforcement of HR policies and procedures Strategic & Generalist Support Identify HR and compliance risks, including leave‑related exposure, and escalate concerns as appropriate Support performance management processes and manager training initiatives Participate in HR projects and organizational initiatives as assigned Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience Bilingual (Spanish), required Minimum of 3 years of progressive HR Business Partner or HR Generalist experience, including hands‑on leave administration Experience supporting unionized workforces, preferred Experience in property management, real estate, or multi-site operations preferred Working knowledge of employment laws, leave regulations, and HR compliance requirements Strong judgment, discretion, and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information HR certification (PHR or SHRM-CP) preferred Physical Requirements & Work Environment (ADA Compliant) The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
