Own A Car is seeking an experienced HR Manager to build and maintain professional, compliant, and high-performing workplace practices across our dealership. You will manage day-to-day HR operations, employee relations, training and development, and compliance to help run the dealership as professionally and efficiently as possible. Key Responsibilities Time & Attendance: Oversee timecard collection, verification, and coordination with payroll; resolve discrepancies and enforce attendance policies. Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws; maintain employment records, I-9s, posters, and required notices; coordinate audits and reporting. Employee Relations & Recourse Coordination: Serve as primary point of contact for employee concerns and complaints; conduct investigations, document outcomes, and manage corrective action plans; act as an impartial recourse coordinator to resolve workplace issues. Professional Standards: Promote and enforce professional conduct, dress code, and customer-facing behaviors among staff. Onboarding & Offboarding: Manage the hiring process onboarding paperwork, orientation, benefits enrollment, and termination procedures; ensure smooth transitions and documentation. Training & Development: Design and oversee training programs (product knowledge, compliance, customer service, sales processes, safety); coordinate ongoing learning and skills development. Performance Management: Administer performance review processes, set goals with managers, document performance issues, and support improvement plans. Recruitment & Staffing Support: Partner with hiring managers to create job descriptions, screen candidates, coordinate interviews, and support selection decisions. Policies & Procedures: Develop, update, and communicate HR policies, employee handbook, and disciplinary procedures. Benefits Administration: Coordinate benefits enrollment, leaves of absence, accommodations, and related vendor communications as needed. Records & HRIS: Maintain accurate personnel records and HR information systems; produce HR metrics and reports for management. Safety & Risk: Support workplace safety efforts and coordinate with managers on OSHA, workplace incidents, and corrective actions. Cross-functional Support: Advise managers on staffing strategy, rostering, conflict resolution, and workforce planning. Required Qualifications 3–5+ years HR experience, preferably in retail, automotive, or fast-paced service environments. Strong knowledge of California (or relevant state) labor laws and HR best practices. Experience with timekeeping systems, payroll coordination, and HRIS. Demonstrated experience handling investigations and employee relations. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities. High integrity, discretion, and ability to handle confidential information. Preferred HR degree or equivalent (BA/BS in HR, Business Administration, or related field). HR certification (SHRM-CP, PHR) preferred. Experience with recruiting, training program development, and benefits administration. Working Conditions & Hours On-site at dealership; occasional evening/weekend flexibility for trainings or meetings may be required.
