Job Description
Position Summary Gary Air is looking for an experienced HVAC Install Manager to lead our residential and light commercial installation department. This role is responsible for making sure every install is completed safely, correctly, profitably, and to Gary Air’s quality standards. The Install Manager oversees Lead Installers, Install Helpers, job planning, material readiness, scheduling coordination, quality control, callbacks, training, and day-to-day field execution. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who understands HVAC installation deeply, can manage crews, solve field problems, improve processes, and hold the team accountable. The right person takes pride in clean installs, strong customer experiences, organized jobs, and building a high-performing install team. Key Responsibilities Manage the daily performance of the HVAC installation department. Lead, coach, train, and hold accountable Lead Installers and Install Helpers. Review upcoming jobs to ensure scopes, equipment, materials, labor, and expectations are clear before the crew arrives. Coordinate with sales, dispatch, warehouse, permitting, and office staff to keep jobs moving efficiently. Ensure installation crews are properly assigned based on job complexity, skill level, and schedule. Oversee residential and light commercial system replacements, ductwork jobs, IAQ installs, accessories, and related HVAC installation work. Support crews in the field when issues arise with layout, equipment, ductwork, wiring, drains, refrigerant lines, startup, or customer concerns. Perform quality control checks before, during, and after installations. Reduce callbacks, failed inspections, incomplete jobs, material delays, and rework. Ensure all installations meet code requirements, manufacturer specifications, permit requirements, and Gary Air quality standards. Review job photos, notes, startup information, and closeout documentation. Ensure crews protect customer property and leave jobsites clean and professional. Track install performance, labor efficiency, job completion, gross margin, customer satisfaction, and callback trends. Help manage inventory, tools, vehicles, equipment, and material usage. Identify training needs and improve installer skill levels over time. Support recruiting, onboarding, and development of new install team members. Enforce safety procedures, company standards, and professional conduct. Leadership Expectations Set clear expectations for install quality, jobsite conduct, safety, communication, and productivity. Lead by example and create a culture of accountability. Make sure installers are prepared before jobs begin. Solve problems quickly without letting jobs stall. Communicate clearly with customers, installers, sales, dispatch, and management. Hold crews accountable while also helping them get better. Build trust with the field team by being fair, consistent, knowledgeable, and hands-on. Own the outcome of the install department, not just the daily schedule. Required Qualifications Must be at least 21 years of age. Valid driver’s license required. Must meet company driving and insurability requirements. 5+ years of HVAC installation experience preferred. Prior experience leading HVAC installers, crews, or field teams strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of residential HVAC installation practices. Ability to oversee system changeouts, ductwork, startups, drains, refrigerant piping, wiring, thermostats, accessories, and code-related requirements. Strong understanding of job costing, labor efficiency, material planning, and gross margin impact. Ability to read and understand scopes of work, estimates, job notes, equipment specs, installation manuals, and permit requirements. Strong communication and leadership skills. Ability to coach, train, and hold field employees accountable. Comfortable using field service software and reviewing job documentation. Ability to work in the field when needed, including attics, garages, closets, rooftops, crawlspaces, and outdoor Florida conditions. Ability to pass any required background checks or company hiring requirements. Preferred Qualifications EPA 608 Certification. Experience managing residential retrofit/changeout installation teams. Experience with ServiceTitan or similar field service software. Experience with permitting, inspections, code compliance, and job closeout processes. Experience with duct design, airflow, humidity control, zoning, IAQ, and whole-home comfort improvements. NATE certification or forma
