About This Role An Apprenticeship at Biogen is a pathway to a long-term career in the biopharmaceutical industry. The 24-month program combines hands-on work in our operations with classes at a partner community college, so you can continue building your skills while gaining real-world experience. Throughout the program, you will be supported by customized on-the-job training and mentorship from trusted and experienced members of your team. The HVAC Maintenance Apprentice supports the operation, maintenance, and reliability of critical HVAC systems within a regulated manufacturing environment. This role focuses on assisting with HVAC equipment such as air handling units (AHUs), walk-in cold rooms, reach-in refrigerators and freezers, exhaust systems, fume hoods, laminar flow hoods, and filtration systems. Working under the guidance of experienced HVAC technicians, the apprentice helps ensure environmental systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards. This position provides hands-on training and development while supporting continuous facility and manufacturing operations. What You’ll Do Assist with preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC systems including AHUs, refrigeration units, exhaust systems, fume hoods, laminar flow hoods, and filtration systems Support temperature, humidity, and airflow control for manufacturing and support spaces Assist with basic diagnostics and corrective maintenance of HVAC components such as motors, belts, filters, dampers, and controls Support HVAC-related electrical components (e.g., motors, starters, control wiring) under supervision Participate in hands-on technical training and skill development activities Complete maintenance documentation and follow established SOPs, safety procedures, and GMP requirements Collaborate with HVAC technicians, facilities staff, and other departments to support uninterrupted manufacturing operations Perform other related duties as assigned Who You Are You are mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, and motivated to develop a career in HVAC systems within an industrial or manufacturing environment. You are eager to learn, follow procedures closely, and work effectively as part of a facilities maintenance team. This opportunity will work at Biogen’s Bio and Pharma location in RTP. Required Skills High School Diploma or equivalent Currently enrolled in, or willing to enroll within 30 days of hire, in a 2- or 4-year academic program Ability to commit and complete an apprenticeship program through Wake Tech Mechanical aptitude with interest in HVAC systems and facility operations Ability to follow instructions, safety procedures, and established work practices Attention to detail and ability to complete documentation accurately Ability to work under close supervision in an operational manufacturing or facility environment Physical requirements: Ability to climb ladders, work in tight spaces, and lift/move equipment up to 50 lbs. Must be comfortable working in cleanroom environments with required gowning and able to stand for up to 3 hours at a time. Preferred Skills Vocational or technical training in HVAC, refrigeration, or a related field Exposure to HVAC systems in industrial, manufacturing, or regulated environments Familiarity with preventive maintenance practices Basic understanding of HVAC controls or building systems Job Level: Entry Level Additional Information The base compensation range for this role is: $29.00-$29.00 Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.
