Job Description
Information Architect Developer Experience Portal Role title: Information Architect - Developer Experience Portal Engagement type: Contract Location: Remote Client context: Enterprise fintech - merchant services / payments platform About the Project We are leading the design and delivery of a unified developer portal for a Fortune 1000 fintech client’s merchant services API platform. The portal will serve four distinct personas-external developers, internal developers, business / product users, and AI / automation agents-across ~13 product areas and ~66 APIs spanning Payments, Refunds, EMV, Subscriptions, Invoices, Webhooks, and more. The portal is delivered directly in Redocly , with content authored as markdown and OpenAPI / Swagger specs managed in a GitHub-native workflow. There is no separate engineering build phase-the IA authored in the tool is what ships. Timeline is tight and outcomes are measurable. What You Will Do Lead the information architecture and content structure for the portal. Define persona-differentiated navigation and entry points across the four personas. Design the logic that separates internal-only from external APIs within one unified portal. Map OpenAPI tags, groups, and operationIds to a scalable sidebar and taxonomy. Author reference and guide content directly in the tool, applying developer-first content patterns-reference vs. tutorial, scannability, copy-paste flows. Ensure the IA and content model are consumable by AI agents through structured metadata and chunking. Partner with technical writers, API engineers, and client SMEs across a 10 -week delivery cadence. Validate the IA through usability sessions with representative users across all four personas. Must-Have Qualifications 8+ years of information architecture, UX architecture, DX design experience, with at least 2 years designing payments developer-facing products-API portals, SDK documentation, or developer tools. Working fluency with OpenAPI / Swagger -you can read and edit specs, and understand tags, servers, and securitySchemes and how they drive portal navigation. Background in payments, fintech, or merchant services domain. Hands-on experience with at least one developer portal platform such as Redocly, ReadMe, Stoplight, Mintlify, or GitBook (Redocly strongly preferred). Comfortable in a GitHub-native authoring workflow -markdown, YAML, pull requests, branch-based content delivery. Demonstrated ability to design persona-differentiated IA with clear journey entry points. Strong written communication and ability to articulate IA rationale to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Nice to Have Experience in designing the system for AI / LLM consumption -structured content, machine-readable metadata, retrieval-optimized chunking. Prior work on internal + external unified developer documentation portals with role-based visibility. Exposure to design systems for developer documentation. Usability testing experience with developer audiences. Tools & Stack Redocly (primary), OpenAPI / Swagger, GitHub, markdown, YAML, Figma (supporting), Miro or equivalent for journey mapping.
