Job Description
Kind of Work Kind of Work Advanced technical, professional and administrative work in designing, integrating, and managing telecommunications, audio/visual (A/V) and data communications technology systems and related infrastructure for the Sewerage and Water Board. Work includes the overseeing, installation, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of structured cabling systems and A/V technologies. Work also includes overseeing various types of cabling, supporting A/V systems used in conference rooms, training rooms, and public-facing meeting spaces, and ensuring reliable functionality during all public meetings; and related work as required. Examples of Work Designs, integrates, and manages the telecommunications of data communications technology systems and infrastructure for the Sewerage and Water Board. Creates the detailed design of a new data communication system and integrates design into an existing structure. Performs site visits for data collection, troubleshooting and evaluation of telecommunications and building technologies systems, equipment, and projects. Maintains inside plant cable infrastructure to include conduit, cable trays, copper, coax, fiber, and all associated elements. Develops accurate bill of materials and obtain pricing to provide cabling solutions. Acquires project documents, perform take-offs, reviews specifications, and estimates materials and labor accurately. Performs cable testing, certification, and troubleshooting using approved test equipment (Fluke, OTDR, toner/probe, etc.) Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, floor plans, and scopes of work Oversees installs, configures, test, and support A/V systems including projectors, microphones, speakers, switchers, displays, control systems, and conferencing platforms Maintains accurate documentation, labeling, test reports, and as-built drawings Assists with complex installations, system upgrades, and advanced troubleshooting in the field Coordinates with project management and IT teams on infrastructure needs and installation requirements Manages workflows to ensure project milestones and schedules are met Conducts quality control inspections and verify cable test results and A/V system performance Coordinates and track materials, tools, test equipment, and job site readiness Communicates project status, issues, and changes with supervisors, project management, and stakeholders Provides technical guidance for cabling layouts, A/V system configuration, and equipment selection Minimum Qualifications EITHER: (1) Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, telecommunication or a closely related field from an accredited college or university* and two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in structured cabling, low-voltage systems and audio/visual installation. Work must have included hands-on installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting of copper, fiber optic and A/V systems. Possession of a BICSI Installer, Technician, or Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification* is required. OR (2) Associate’s Degree in computer science, telecommunication or a closely related field from an accredited college or university* and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in structured cabling, low-voltage systems and audio/visual installation. Work must have included hands-on installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting of copper, fiber optic, and A/V systems. Possession of a BICSI Installer, Technician, or Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification* is required. OR (3) Six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in structured cabling, low-voltage installation and audio/visual system support. Work must have included installation, routing, termination, testing, or maintenance of commercial cabling infrastructure and A/V technologies. Possession of a BICSI Installer, Technician, or RCDD certification* is required. Note: If appointed, employee must be certified by the Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) as a Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) during the probationary period. No probationary period may last longer than one year. If employees are not certified by BICSI during their probationary period, they will be terminated and must wait one year from the end of their probationary period or receive certification to be considered for rehire. Prior to appointment, the hiring agency is required to verify any credentials claimed by the applicant to qualify for this classification.
