Overview The Traveling Weld Trainer is responsible for the training and development of field welders at various job sites across the United States. In addition to training duties, this role involves inspecting welding work, material handling, storage practices, and the overall construction quality of new steel storage tanks, vessels, and structures, as well as evaluating repair work. The position reports directly to the Regional QA Manager and works closely with the Various Superintendents on a regular basis. Responsibilities Welding Trainer Core Responsibilities Know and understand the contractual requirements Know and understand the WPS Keep track of welder qualifications Ensure electrode and consumable materials are properly stored and conditioned Ensure proper fit up and cleanliness of field weld joints Know and understand welder skill levels Communicate WPS requirements to welders Be able to demonstrate if needed Own and lead the Welder Performance Development Process, including initial onboarding, follow-up evaluations, and continuous improvement efforts. Responsible for the completion of the Welder Performance Milestone Journey, ensuring welders progress through defined stages of skill and competency. Conduct and document Welder Performance Reviews, providing actionable feedback and tracking development over time. Showcase overall ownership of the Welder Development Program, aligning training efforts with operational goals and quality standards. Delivering hands-on training tailored to individual and site-specific needs. Assessing welder performance through observation, testing, and feedback. Creating personalized improvement plans to address skill gaps and enhance productivity. Providing performance insights and feedback to both Operations and Site Leadership. Supporting new welders during onboarding and early field exposure. Addressing field welding issues and mentoring aspiring welders to meet company standards Safety Leads by example Participates actively in safety meetings Actively participates in correcting un‐safe conditions Daily safety input through I Care, JSA, Good Catch, 5x5 programs Inspection and Testing Ensure work meets drawings, standards, and codes. Ensure and assists testing and NDE is current and properly done Ensure all work is completed and signed off. Reports Safety Questionnaire RT/UT Reports By maintaining a consistent presence in the field, the trainer helps ensure that welding teams remain skilled, confident, and aligned with company standards. Travel consistently between project sites up to 75% of the time. Complete any other task required Local Requirements: Normal work environment will be shop or field which will require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, working near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles.
