Job Description
Position: Instructional Literacy Coach Location: The Center School The Instructional Literacy Coach is responsible for delivering engaging and effective coaching aligned with the established curriculum for elementary students. The coach will collaborate with colleagues and administrators to support student learning and contribute to a positive school environment. Responsibilities also include participating in professional development opportunities and attending meetings as needed to support students, academic programs, and overall school initiatives. Organizational Scope: Reporting to the Building Principal, the Instructional Coach for Literacy leads and supports grade K-5 staff in the use of evidence-based instructional practices to advance student learning and growth. Coaches assist staff in the development, implementation, assessment, and refinement of a high-quality literacy curriculum aligned to MA Curriculum Frameworks to improve student outcomes through collaborative and embedded learning opportunities (co-planning, co-teaching, and coaching). Working closely with the Department of Teaching and Learning, coaches support both horizontal and vertical alignment of standards and practices across grade levels and content areas. Position Responsibilities: Work closely with building-based Instructional Leadership Teams, the Department of Teaching and Learning, literacy specialists, and other instructional coaches. Meet regularly with Principal/Assistant Principal, Director of Curriculum for ELA and Social Studies, and literacy specialists to review school wide and classroom-level quantitative and qualitative data and to monitor and support progress toward instructional goals within a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS). Lead effective, culturally responsive, and equitable literacy instructional practices, Universal Design for Learning, instructional leadership, and curriculum initiatives of the district. Serve as an active participant in the curriculum review cycle, assisting in the selection and evaluation of resources and the piloting of/implementing high-quality instructional materials, as applicable. Establish sustainable structures to engage teachers in coaching cycles to refine instructional practices and plan lessons that align with the state standards for literacy and support Nashoba’s instructional vision for literacy. Support and provide targeted instruction based on student need in collaboration with general educators. Support teachers with the administration of universal screening assessments, progress monitoring, benchmark assessments and/or other assessment methodology; facilitate and assist in effective and relevant data collection. Conduct grade-level data team meetings in collaboration with Principal/Assistant Principal. With educators, engage in conversations and collaborative efforts to collect and analyze a variety of data to strengthen targeted instruction in response to determined student needs. Maintain a tracking system for identified students who are in need of targeted instruction and/or intervention. Support the training of new staff on the comprehensive use of universal screeners. Provide data reports and analysis for school leaders, as necessary. Participate in district-wide coaching training and continue to develop professionally as a lead learner. Job Qualifications: Massachusetts DESE licensure as a Reading Specialist. Possess strong interpersonal skills (communication, problem-solving, collegiality, collaboration) to share evidence-based instructional approaches with teachers and administrators and provide mentoring/coaching. Ability to collect, analyze and synthesize data. Experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion best practices. Ability to work onsite in district schools and buildings is an essential function of this job. Ability to manage individual workload and prioritize tasks.
