JOB JOB SUMMARYThis is a temporary, part-time position designed for actively enrolled college students in a criminal justice or related field, such as Criminology or Criminal Forensics, who are seeking hands-on experience in a municipal law enforcement agency. The intern will observe day-to-day and long-term operations across various police divisions and perform essential administrative and technical support duties. The intern is expected to keep a log of hours worked for university credit.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESNo direct supervisory responsibilities.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESObserve operations across different divisions, including ride-alongs.Observe activities within specialized areas such as dispatch and the city jail.Assist the Marine Division as a third crewmember on Marine 1 or by riding along with beach patrol.Participate in traffic control observation, including working traffic with a vest.Observational and FTO style training.Assist in the evidence room by clearing old evidence and working through backlogs.Rework Omniform documents into usable Google Forms.Assist with administrative paperwork, including filing, shredding, and correcting reports.Work with dispatch to update departmental documents and spreadsheets with necessary information.Produce material for use on the Police Department website and social media channels.Update Lexipol for applicability with Orange Beach Police Department standards and practices.All positions at the City of Orange Beach have the job responsibilities below: Handles sensitive information in a confidential manner. Becomes thoroughly familiar with all pertinent state and national policies and comply with said policies.Complies with City wide and departmental policies, as well as state and federal laws.Ensures the positive promotion of the City.Is prompt and punctual in reporting for work, meetings, etc. Performs other duties as assigned.Compliant with departmental appearance standards.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESKnowledge of office practices, procedures and equipment.Knowledge of business English, spelling and punctuation.Writing skills that clearly and concisely compose correspondence, prepare documents, reports, forms, records, etc.Math skills to add, subtract, multiply and divide.Knowledge of municipal rules, regulations, procedures and functions, and the ability to apply that knowledge to work problems.Ability to work independently.Ability to deal with the public in a pleasant effective manner, and to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.Knowledge of Google calendars, sheets, and docs.
