Job Description
Mental Health Kokua (MHK) is hiring a Kauhale Housing Specialist on Maui to support adults in behavioral health recovery living in community-based supportive housing. This full-time role helps maintain a safe, respectful, and recovery-oriented shared housing environment that promotes stability, independence, and community connection. As a Kauhale Housing Specialist, you will support residents with daily living skills, provide mentoring and recovery-focused support, and help maintain a positive household environment. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy active, meaningful work and want to help others build confidence, strengthen routines, and work toward long-term stability. What You’ll Do (Responsibilities) Mentoring & Support: Assist residents with life skills, goal-setting, and maintaining housing stability Daily Living Skills: Teach and reinforce cooking, personal care, communication, and household routines Safety & Crisis Response: Maintain a safe environment, respond to emergencies, and complete incident reporting Recovery-Oriented Support: Encourage self-direction, wellness, and recovery using person-centered practices Program Activities: Plan and support social, recreational, educational, and vocational activities Household Operations: Assist with chores, shopping, maintenance coordination, and sanitation needs Documentation & Service Planning: Complete progress notes and support resident service plan goals Resident Supervision: Monitor resident well-being, daily routines, and medication self-administration as appropriate Kauhale Housing Specialist Qualifications Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent Preferred: Coursework in psychology, social work, human development, or experience in behavioral health or human services Skills: Strong interpersonal communication, teamwork, problem-solving, flexibility, and ability to remain calm in stressful situations Certifications: CPR, First Aid, and TB clearance (or willingness to obtain) Fit for the Role: Comfortable working in a shared housing environment supporting adults in behavioral health recovery Requirements & Work Conditions Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening Work takes place in a shared housing/residential environment Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and respond to emergencies in a residential setting Benefits of Joining MHK Medical & Vision Insurance (UHA or Kaiser) Dental Insurance (HDS) Supplemental Insurance (Aflac) Pet Insurance 403(b) Retirement Plan Identity Theft & Legal Protection Paid Leave & Holiday Pay Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) eligibility Why Mental Health Kokua?
