CHILLICOTHE CITY SCHOOLS Job Description Title: Kindergarten Readiness Boot Camp Teacher Reports to: Building Principal / Elementary Curriculum Director / Program Coordinator Employment Status: Temporary, Hourly – Summer 2026 (June 22 – July 23, 2025) Rate of Pay: Per negotiated agreement / hourly rate TBD Hours: 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Monday through Wednesday + 2 hrs/week planning Positions Available: 4 Licensed Kindergarten Teachers + 4 Licensed Intervention Specialists Qualifications Valid Ohio teaching license (Kindergarten / Early Childhood Education required for lead teacher role; Intervention Specialist license required for co-teacher role) Experience teaching Kindergarten or early childhood education strongly preferred Familiarity with or willingness to receive training on program curricula: Bookworms ELA framework, 95% Group Phonics Core, 95% Group Handwriting, 95 Pocket Phonics, Number Corner (Math), and A Little Spot SEL series Demonstrated ability to implement structured literacy and phonics instruction with fidelity Experience with or knowledge of social-emotional learning (SEL) instructional strategies Strong classroom management skills with ability to establish predictable routines for young learners Ability to deliver differentiated instruction and support students with a wide range of readiness levels Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with families Excellent organizational skills; ability to collect, track, and report student data as required Willingness to collaborate with co-teachers, participate in weekly planning, and attend pre-program preparation sessions General Description The Kindergarten Readiness Boot Camp Teacher will provide direct academic instruction, social-emotional learning support, and procedural skill development for incoming Kindergarten students during the summer Kindergarten Readiness Boot Camp program. The program is held at Chillicothe Primary School from June 22 through July 23, 2025 (Monday through Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) and serves 60 students across four classrooms of approximately 15 students each. Each classroom is staffed by one licensed Kindergarten teacher (lead instructor) and one licensed Intervention Specialist (co-teacher). The program curriculum is intentionally aligned with the instructional materials students will encounter when they begin Kindergarten, ensuring a smooth and confident transition to the school year. Specific Performance Duties – Lead Kindergarten Teacher Deliver daily core academic instruction following the program schedule, including Shared Reading and ELA lessons using the Bookworms framework, Phonics instruction using the 95% Group Phonics Core curriculum, Mathematics instruction using Number Corner, and SEL lessons using the A Little Spot series Implement structured arrival and executive functioning routines at the start of each program day to build student self-management and establish classroom expectations Lead outdoor recess with structured instruction in playground rules, safe play, and conflict resolution strategies Facilitate Guided Center Time with explicit instruction on independent work habits, classroom expectations, and task transitions Guide students through cafeteria procedures and lunch routines to build readiness for the school year Embed procedural instruction throughout daily transitions, including hallway walking, restroom use, and phonemic awareness transition activities Participate in two hours of paid weekly planning time with instructional staff to collaborate, prepare lessons, and review student data Attend two hours of paid pre-program preparation prior to the first day of camp to review curriculum materials, establish classroom routines, and prepare the physical environment Maintain accurate records of student attendance and participation as required by the Program Coordinator Participate in three to four family engagement sessions offered throughout the program period Communicate regularly and professionally with families regarding student progress and program expectations Specific Performance Duties – Intervention Specialist (Co-Teacher) Co-teach alongside the lead Kindergarten teacher across all daily instructional blocks and activities Provide targeted support, differentiated instruction, modified approaches, and additional scaffolding to ensure all learners can access the curriculum Implement proactive strategies in collaboration with the Licensed Behavior Therapist to support behavioral need
