ROLE, RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB The Duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment of this classification.Under the general direction of the Executive Director, and the direct supervision of the Laboratory Manager, the Lab Assistant:Performs mosquito & vector-borne disease surveillance Deploys & collects various mosquito traps Identification of mosquito species when needed Data entry on in-house GIS programs (i.e.MapVision) Communicates knowledge to residents and perform minor public relations tasks Schedules maintenance related services on their assigned District vehicle Attends training and education sessions when needed Performs other work as assigned EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS High school diploma/GED minimum.College education preferred.QUALIFICATIONS AND PREFERRED SKILLS Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to work in group and independent settings Ability to work a flexible schedule Capability to operate basic electronic equipment and software (i.e.iPads, Cellphones, email) Bilingual capabilities are a plus but not required PHYSICAL DEMANDS Prolonged sitting at a desk; prolonged driving a district provided vehicle; may be required to lift items up to 40lbs.Work is subject to sun exposure, extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, gases, dust, and noxious odors.COMPENSATION $20 per hour up to 40 hours per week BENEFITS Position is hourly.Sick Time of 40 hours/year.ADDITIONAL NOTES Must possess a valid California Driver's License.Must be insurable under the guidelines set by the District's insurance carrier.A one-year probationary period is required.Basic work hours:6:30AM to 3:00PM, Monday through Friday during season (April through mid-November) Job Types:Part-time, Temporary Pay:$20.00 per hour Expected hours:40 per week Education:High school or equivalent (Required) License/Certification:Driver's License (Required) Work Location:In person.
