SUMMARY Laborer is an entry-level position responsible for performing work inside and outdoors under very difficult circumstances and in trying surroundings at times. Position works with several types of home modifications and installation of various adaptive equipment. Professional behavior is always expected while on the job. This position is required to ensure production quantity and quality are always maintained. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES · Performs tasks as assigned by the program manager pertaining to the Older Adult Home Modification Program. · Install various home modifications that may include grab bars, railings, and lever-handled doorknobs and faucets. · Install adaptive equipment, such as temporary ramp, tub/shower transfer bench, handheld shower head, raised toilet seat, risers for chairs and sofas, and non-slip strips for tub/shower or stairs. · Work safely with little to no supervision. · Performs various minor home construction repairs. · Attends training as required including out-of-town, multi day training. · Conducts periodic evaluations of program effectiveness and responsiveness, creates reports as needed and maintains all records necessary to meet program requirements. · Coordinates activities with other program personnel as appropriate. Inputs and updates required information in applicable program data management system(s). · Assists in the creation of a safety culture by working in a safe manner; reports unsafe situations and accidents; follows safety procedures; requests and uses safety equipment and safety techniques; and participates in safety training. · Participate in crew and department meetings as required. · Regular and punctual attendance on the job. · Assumes additional duties and responsibilities as required. OCCASIONAL FUNCTIONS · Participates on work-related committees QUALIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS · High School Diploma/GED and a minimum of 2 years professional experience in construction, rehabilitation, or other related work required. · Problem solving and the ability to work and communicate with fellow workers and the public are necessary. · Strong commitment to learning and integrating cultural differences into day-to-day practices. · Compliance with agency and departmental policies and procedures, including those related to customer confidentiality, drug free workplace, criminal background requirements, and vaccinations. · Familiarity with pertinent legislation, rules, and regulations pertaining to zoning, permitting, etc. Adherence to all Federal, State, and local rules governing the OAHMP. · Operational knowledge of PC Operating Systems and Microsoft Office software package. · Valid Driver’s License, automobile insurance and reliable transportation. · Adherence to departmental dress code, including the usage of protective clothing and equipment while on the job. WORK CONDITIONS AND POTENTIAL HAZARDS · There is frequent, personal contact with people; exposure to illness and communicable diseases, people with a wide range of physical and mental disabilities, emotionally distraught, communication or memory impaired, confused and irate and those under the influence of drugs or alcohol. · Work is mostly outdoor and physically active but may include exposure to heat, cold, water, snow, and other weather-related elements. · Physical requirements include heavy lifting, (50 lbs.), standing, bending, at the knee, crouching, carrying, pushing, pulling, and reaching. Work involves strenuous activity. · Mental requirements include working on several projects at the same time, ability to comprehend instructions and on occasion, working alone and completing instructions. EQUIPMENT OPERATED · Computer equipment and data processing software. · Standard hand tools such as wrenches, pliers, cutters, files, striking tools, struck or hammered tools, screwdrivers, vises, clamps, snips, hacksaws, drills, and knives, outdoor tools such as garden forks, pruning shears, and rakes, and a variety of portable power tools. · Agency vehicles, including 12-passenger vans.
