At Pacific Science Center, our mission is to ignite curiosity in every child and fuel a passion for discovery, experimentation, and critical thinking in all of us.Our colleagues are passionate lifelong learners who live our mission every day.Each of us commits to bring an inclusion, diversity, equity, and access (IDEA) focus in every aspect of our work.Join our collaborative team and help steward our warm, welcoming, community-learning environment at PacSci.As part of our ongoing commitment to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace, we're invested in building teams with a wide variety of backgrounds, identities, and experiences.Data shows that women and BIPOC candidates more frequently do not apply to a job because they don't feel that they meet all of the qualifications listed.If you have some of the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and you share PacSci's values and support our mission, we encourage you to apply.Position Title:Laser Usher Department:Theaters Reports to:Laser Dome Supervisor Pay Class:Part Time Regular FLSA Status:Hourly, Non-Exempt This is part time role averaging 15 hours/week.Availability on Saturday is required.Position Summary The Laser Usher is responsible for providing excellent customer service to Pacific Science Center visitors at the Laser Dome.They would collaborate with the Guest Services Laser Concessions Host and Laser Artists to ensure Laser Dome guests are welcomed and served in a manner that makes their experience memorable and consistent with Pacific Science Center's mission and values.Essential Duties & Responsibilities Customer Service:Provide an excellent guest experience by:Warmly greeting guests at our Laser Dome Facilitate entry and exit from our theater locations, including validating tickets upon entry.Responding to guest inquiries in a manner consistent with Pacific Science Center's mission and values Proactively responding to individual needs with a positive attitude Being knowledgeable about our Membership program Provide film or show recommendations according to group size, ages, interests, and time Direct guests to the restroom, dispensing ear plugs and kids' headphones upon request, assisting with the arrival of latecomers to ensure safe passage into the theater, and communicating to audience members when they must conceal or turn down phones, cameras, glow-sticks, and anything emitting light in the theater.Ensuring the safety and experience of all guests within the Laser Dome, addressing guests who may be being unsafe or disruptive Use radio calls to communicate with Security and Guest Services if needed Operational Support:Contribute to overall operational functions by:Lending support and assistance to laserists and Guest, informing them of security, first aid, lost person, and lost item situations.Promptly informing other departments, such as Facilities, Exhibits, and Custodial, of malfunctions, damage, or mess.Assisting in Laser Dome minor maintenance, quality control, and preparing spaces for guests between shows, including end-of-day cleaning.Report technical issues related to the building and equipment, help with basic repairs.Minor interaction with laser equipment.Nightly set up and take down of necessary equipment.Other duties as assigned.Position Requirements Knowledge of best practices and principles of guest service industry, including creating positive impressions and interactions, conflict resolution, and promoting safety.Demonstrated understanding of effective daily operations in a public venue Familiarity with content of theaters, concessions, and Pacific Science Center operations Awareness of safety, security, and emergency responses Written and oral communications are clear and effective with all audiences.Attention to detail and ability to multi-task Adaptable to changing situations; responsive to time sensitive problem solving Ability to exercise sound judgment and flexibility should difficult situations arise Serve the public in a friendly and courteous manner Dependability and punctuality Ability to respect and relate well to diverse staff and guests Properly utilize appropriate resources when escalating guest issues Qualifications Required Be willing to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays.Able to work in a dark and loud environment, with flashing laser projections, for many hours at a time.The ability to work in this environment is an essential part of the job.High school diploma or equivalent experience Previous usher or theater/events experience Physical Demands & Working Conditions The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.The nature of this work requires that it must be performed indoors on-site in a dark and loud environment.Ear protection is provided.Able to remain stationary for long periods of time as well as frequent movement in locations that may
