Job description Coming to the Nora District this Winter— Sports & Rec is an elevated sports bar experience from The Garret Group. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Lead Cook to join our dynamic team in a fast-paced restaurant environment. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with a passion for hospitality and a commitment to delivering an exceptional guest experience. The Lead Cook is responsible for supporting the Head Chef in the execution of all culinary business operations and management of all back of house staff including, hiring, training, and onboarding. The Sous Chef also is responsible for all back of house administrative processes in the absence of the Head Chef. Leadership, Teamwork, and Communication: Provide a sense of leadership, including both FOH and BOH hospitality and communication – lead by example. Maintain a strong sense of ownership of entire culinary offerings. Execute culinary offerings with a high level of precision and care. Maintain culinary management in all special projects, kitchen operations and menu development Maintain effective communication with the Head Chef, General Managers, Director of Operations and all staff. Maintain a reasonable response time for all communication – minimal of a confirmation (by email, slack, text or call) same day with a timeline in regard to a full response. Maintain sanitation standards and procedures that comply with health and legal regulations with the advice of the company. Maintain a reasonable schedule with flexible availability. On days or nights off, be on call and ready to manage and respond to emergency situations. Service Standards: Assist in oversight of kitchen staff to ensure all duties are met and exceeded. Provide creative and technical influence to the Culinary Team in keeping with The Garret Bars Core Values. Maintain patron satisfaction by monitoring, evaluating, and auditing food, beverage, and service offerings; build relationships with preferred patrons; maintain good community relations. Directly oversee culinary staff development (service and hospitality standards) to ensure all duties are met and exceeded; handle escalated staff issues. Oversee training of all kitchen management positions. Be capable of covering any position in the kitchen at any time. Employee Development and Administration: Ensures that operational and training standards are consistently followed and executed. Leads the behavior that creates a safe and enriching workplace for all employees. Provides feedback and corrective action in order to hold hourly team members accountable to The Garret Bars values, goals, and standards. Ensures new company initiatives are supported and communicated clearly to all team members. Leads and fosters a restaurant culture that promotes employee development and coaching on a daily basis. Additional Skills and Responsibilities: Exudes excellence in hospitality for all employees and guests. Possesses excellent strategic planning skills, with an emphasis on delivering, executing, and assessing action plans. Effectively communicates in written and spoken English. Proactive in their communication to the General Manager and Director of Operations. Analytical and organizational skills, as well the ability to define and effectively solve and deal with a variety of changing situations under stress. Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to resolve conflicting interests with the goal of obtaining cooperation. Passion for exceptional hospitality, food, and beverages. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. Self-driven, results-oriented, and possesses a solid track-record of leading high-caliber, upscale restaurants. Well versed in restaurant industry specific labor laws. Proficient in a variety of technology systems, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Payroll, POS, and COGS Systems. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential, as well as the ability to effectively train, coach, evaluate, and discipline employees.
