The MNIT MDH team provides services for over 250+ applications and delivers the information technology to drive one of the leading public health systems in the nation. You will support an agency that works to protect, maintain, and improve the health of all Minnesotans. Job Summary This position provides advanced professional expertise in database administration, supporting relational database management systems (RDBMS) such as Oracle Enterprise Server and Microsoft SQL Server. Responsibilities include monitoring day-to-day database operations, performing system patching and upgrades, and planning for future database implementations and enhancements. The position also promotes and ensures adherence to database management standards, best practices, procedures, and guidelines across the division. Database Administrator (DBA) responsibilities at this level are highly complex and broad in scope, requiring minimal direction. The position leads database administration efforts, independently managing priorities while providing guidance and technical direction to others. As a Level 5 DBA, this role serves as a subject matter expert, performing complex database administration activities and collaborating with business partners, application development teams, and IT operations. The position provides consultation on all RDBMS-related initiatives, supporting system design, development, testing, implementation, and ongoing operations. This role coordinates database-related implementation planning and release activities and ensures solutions align with enterprise standards and business needs. Additionally, the position mentors and coaches less experienced DBAs, including recommending training approaches and supporting skill development across the team. This position requires an employee to be onsite at 625 N. Robert St. Saint Paul, Minnesota at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location. Telework for Minnesota IT Services is available on a limited basis. Employees will be required to meet current telework eligibility requirements. Qualifications Position requires a minimum of five (5) years of IT related experience in database management functions. Experience must include Administering and supporting relational database management systems (RDBMS) such as Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or similar, including monitoring, performance tuning, and system optimization. Designing, implementing, and maintaining database structures and data models, including ensuring data integrity, security, and recovery processes. Leading or providing technical guidance on complex database or IT projects, including collaboration with developers, business stakeholders, and IT operations teams. Troubleshooting and resolving complex database and system issues, including analyzing performance data and implementing solutions to improve system reliability and efficiency. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences and collaborate across teams to support enterprise IT solutions. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a manner that facilitates mutual understanding. Customer-focused approach grounded in active listening, empathy, and solution-oriented problem-solving to deliver positive user experiences. Education in Information Technology (IT) or an IT related field may substitute for experience as follows: a master’s degree for eighteen (18) months of experience; a bachelor’s degree for one (1) year; and an associate’s degree for six (6) months. Minnesota IT Services does not participate in the federal E-Verify program.
