Job Description
Amherst Police Department Position Summary: The Amherst Police Department is seeking a professional, organized, and detail-oriented person to provide essential administrative and clerical support to department leadership, sworn personnel, and the department’s prosecutor. This position plays a critical role in maintaining efficient office operations, supporting court-related functions, and delivering high-quality service to the public. The ideal candidate is dependable, discreet, customer-service oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced public safety environment requiring strict confidentiality. Key Responsibilities: Provide administrative support to command staff, officers, and the department prosecutor Assist with paralegal and case preparation support, including organizing case files, compiling reports, discovery materials, and related documentation Coordinate court schedules, track case status updates, and maintain prosecution calendars Prepare legal correspondence and court-related documents as directed Maintain accurate records and ensure proper filing of citations, reports, and court paperwork Answer phones and respond to public inquiries in person and electronically Prepare departmental reports and general correspondence Maintain records, files, and confidential information in accordance with department policy Process invoices, purchase orders, and assist with budget tracking Coordinate meetings, schedules, and department events Assist with records management, body worn camera program, and data entry Support accreditation, compliance, and reporting requirements as needed Knowledge and Skills Desired: Strong organizational, clerical, and communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and data management systems. Knowledge of legal terminology and court proceedings, or ability to learn. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma required; Associate degree preferred 2+ years of administrative experience; legal, paralegal, or court experience strongly preferred What We Offer: Competitive salary range: $27.33-$32.34, depending on experience.
