LIBRARIAN I/II City of Murrieta, CA Murrieta, California United States Posted:Jan 28, 2026 Salary:$72,633.60 - $97,448.00 Annually USD Full Time Library Services Description and Essential FunctionsConnected by Amazing Employees The City of Murrieta is accepting applications for the Librarian I/II position to fill one current vacancy for the Murrieta Public Library Divisions - Adult Librarian for Adult and Teen Services.The eligibility list established may be used to fill upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to one (1) year.Librarian I:$6,052 - $7,356 MonthlyLibrarian II :$6,680 - $8,120 MonthlyAdult Librarian for the Adult and Teen Services Department:Develops, facilitates, and provides a full range of library services, programs, and outreach primarily for adults and older adults within the community.The ideal candidate performs various professional librarian duties, including planning and delivering adult and senior programming; providing reference and reader's advisory services; serving as the point of contact for the Library's Heritage Room and local history collection; supporting collection development and cataloging; and conducting outreach to adults and older adults through community events and partnerships.The position involves identifying current and future community needs, taking initiative to enhance adult and senior library services, and performing related work as required.D ESCRIPTION Under general supervision (I) or direction (II), develops and provides the full range of technical and/or direct library services to the community and performs a variety of professional librarian duties, including development of programs and services for target audiences, reference, collection development and management, and/or cataloging; identifies current community needs and projects future needs; takes initiative to assist in improving library services; and performs related work as required.SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives general supervision (Librarian I) to direction (Librarian II) from the Supervising Librarian and/or Library Manager.Exercises functional direction over and provides training to lower level staff and volunteers.CLASS CHARACTERISTICS Librarian I - This is the entry-level classification in the professional Librarian series.Initially under general supervision, incumbents learn and perform routine library program services including young readers services, adult services, reference, collection development, or cataloging.As experience is gained, assignments become more varied, complex, and difficult; general supervision and frequent review of work lessen as an incumbent demonstrates skill to perform the work independently.Positions at this level usually perform most of the duties required of the positions at the Librarian II level, but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods.Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern.Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise.Librarian II - This is the fully qualified journey-level classification within the professional Librarian series.Positions at this level are distinguished from the Librarian I level by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently, and exercising judgment and initiative.Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.This class is distinguished from the Supervising Librarian in that the latter performs the more complex work assigned to the series and has full supervisory authority over employees and functional areas.Positions in the Librarian I/II class series are flexibly staffed; positions at the Librarian II level are normally filled by advancement from the Librarian I level; progression to the Librarian II level is dependent on (i) management affirmation that the position is performing the full range of duties assigned to the classification; (ii) satisfactory work performance; (iii) the incumbent meeting the minimum qualifications for the classification including any licenses and certifications; and (iv) management approval for progression to the Librarian II level.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Management reserves the right to add, modify, or remove job duties as necessary and will make reasonable accommodations to enable qualified individuals to perform the position's essential functions.The omission of a specific duty does not preclude it from being assigned if it is similar, related, or logically aligned with the role's overall responsibilities.Positions at the Librarian I level may perform some of these duties and responsibilities in a learning capacity Develops, implements, and evaluates services and programs in a designated area such as Young Read
