NOTE:This is a part-time, seasonal (May - September) position, requiring staff to tent outdoors and commit to 4 consecutive weeks of work, at a minimum.Before submitting your application, please read our Frequently Asked Questions.Omega Seasonal Staff Experience Omega's seasonal staff experience offers the unique opportunity for individuals to contribute professional skills and compassionate customer service while thriving in a vibrant learning-oriented environment.Contribute Meaningful Work - Join a team of people who are passionate about contributing to a meaningful cause.Learn and Grow - Enjoy access to specially designed Holistic Education Program classes, trainings, and events.Immerse in Nature - Explore Omega's beautiful 250-acre campus and amenities.Seasonal Staff Commitment We seek individuals who are committed to providing exemplary work in support of our mission, and who model our values - Holism, Community, Sustainability, Service, and Integrity.Seasonal staff members represent Omega as excellent stewards of professional and compassionate service.Each interaction with workshop participants, faculty and fellow staff members, creates the Omega experience.Job Description Part Time Library Assistant:non-exempt, part-time; on average 21-28 hours per week.Reports to Campus Manager.Summary The Ram Dass Library is a physical manifestation of a long-held dream to enhance the Omega community through providing a beautiful, peaceful space where staff and participants can expand their learning experience.The Library is the cornerstone of knowledge for our community, and with that role comes the responsibility of being highly organized and service-oriented.The Library Assistant is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the library, including organizing and reshelving books, maintaining the order and cleanliness of the space, assisting visitors and responding to guest inquiries.The Library Assistant will carry out the vision, and operational goals, of the Campus Manager.Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Keeping the Library organized and clean.Helping guests find books and familiarizing them with the general layout of the Library.Cataloging books using the Athena software program; shelving new books; labeling new books; adding new subject headings to the catalog.Administrative tasks:copying, filing, organization, data entry, email and phone use.Creating and maintaining a peaceful and welcoming environment in the Library.Tidying/cleaning, and resetting the space as required.Other duties as required by the supervisor.Work Details This position functions in the Ram Dass Library, on the Omega campus.This is a part-time position, 21-28 hours a week, depending on operational need.The day-to-day schedule varies, weekend availability is required.Part Time Seasonal Staff live in tenting areas on Omega's campus.The individuals are assigned a platform that is tarped to provide rain coverage.Staff bring their own tent (no larger than 10x10).Physical Requirements Ability to occasionally move items that weigh up to 20 pounds for various needs.Ability to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.Ability to traverse a hilly campus in diverse weather conditions.Ability to position self to perform diverse job tasks as necessary.Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.Ability to observe details at close range.Required Experience/Qualities Working knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System (required), and prior library experience (preferred).Excellent administrative skills, and ability to learn and master the Library catalog system (physical and digital) Familiarity with Omega workshop faculty, and holistic literature (preferred)..Detail oriented.Self-driven and ability to work independently.Timely, reliable, and service oriented individual.Excellent interpersonal skills.Alignment with Omega's Mission, Goals and Core Values.Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time, with or without notice.Compensation Part-time seasonal staff can expect to work from early-May through late-September and will receive a compensation package that includes:Wage Three delicious meals per day in our mostly vegetarian Dining Hall Access to Omega's staff benefits This compensation package is at minimum equivalent to the New York State minimum wage.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.The requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.Omega complies with the Americans with Disa
