Job Description
Looking for something different than the typical skilled nursing facility? Merced Behavioral Center is a 96-bed skilled nursing facility specializing in psychiatric and behavioral health care. Our residents are adults living with serious mental illness who require long-term support, structure, treatment, and compassion in a safe environment. Many of our residents are under conservatorship and face not only mental illness, but also the stigma and isolation that often comes with it. We are looking for Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) and Licensed Psychiatric Technicians (LPTs) who are confident, compassionate, team-oriented, and able to think critically in a behavioral health setting. This is not a “pass meds and go home” type of nursing position. Our licensed nurses play a vital role in maintaining safety, promoting independence, supporting psychiatric stabilization, and helping residents improve their quality of life. Why Nurses Choose Merced Behavioral Center: Specialized psychiatric and behavioral health experience. Strong teamwork-oriented culture. Leadership opportunities and professional growth. Meaningful relationships with residents. Supportive management team. Night shift differential offered. Electronic charting system with training provided. Responsibilities Include: Medication administration and treatment monitoring. Behavioral observation and psychiatric symptom assessment. Supervising and supporting CNAs on the unit. Responding to crises and emergency situations calmly and professionally. Communicating changes in condition to providers and interdisciplinary team members. Supporting resident independence while assisting with care needs when appropriate. Documentation in PointClickCare EMR. Promoting a safe, respectful, and therapeutic environment for both residents and staff. Qualifications: Current California LVN or LPT license in good standing. Current CPR/BLS certification. Basic computer skills. Ability to communicate effectively in English. Ability to think independently and lead during high-stress situations. Psychiatric or behavioral health experience preferred, but not required. What We’re Looking For: We want nurses who are patient, emotionally intelligent, adaptable, and willing to continue learning. Psychiatric nursing requires empathy, consistency, professionalism, and the ability to build trust with individuals who are often at vulnerable points in their lives. If you are someone who wants to make a genuine difference while developing strong psychiatric nursing and leadership skills, we encourage you to apply.
