Job Description Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager, the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) Supervisor will oversee clinic operations and will have primary responsibility for the supervision of LVNs and medical assistants at UCSF’s Berkeley Outpatient Multispecialty Center (BOPC). They will also have shared, indirect oversight over other support staff such as practice coordinators in coordination with the Practice Supervisor/Administrative Director. The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) Supervisor will have clinical and administrative responsibility for developing and maintaining a high standard of patient care. They are required to learn and be able to assist in all functions of the practices to include back and front office. These functions include, but are not limited to personnel, clinic staffing, materials resource management, maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff, and for daily clinical operations. In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, they will also oversee the training and performance of all LVNs and medical assistants and are responsible for composing and delivering their annual performance evaluations. The LVN Supervisor will assist with the standardization and implementation of policies, procedures, and competencies for LVNs and medical assistants and will ensure compliance with annual competency assessments (e.g. Point of Care Testing), all regulatory agency mandates, and patient safety goals. They will also play a critical role in the patient experience including optimizing clinic flow, providing in and outreach to patients and working collaboratively with the team to create a patient-centered environment. All components of clinical care will be individualized to meet the patient’s physiological and psychological developmental level and needs. The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) Supervisor must have the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks and work well with staff, patients and providers. A high degree of independence, initiative, assertiveness, and diplomacy are necessary in dealing with faculty, staff and patients in a complex environment. This role is a working supervisor, and the incumbent will be expected to continue to support clinic operations by rooming patients, handling secure patient messages, collecting and preparing specimens for processing, assisting with basic facilities upkeep, and performing other clinical tasks as assigned. The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) Supervisor is expected to consistently project a professional and courteous demeanor and is required to comply with the Medical Center House and Telephone Standards and to role model AIDET & Living PRIDE standards at all times. The LVN Supervisor will work on a regular basis with leadership in various specialties. This position will also work closely with the practice leadership and providers in supporting practice goals. They will attend management meetings at the discretion of the Nurse Manager and will collaborate with the practice leadership to develop, monitor and maintain systems pertaining to all aspects of their function(s). Department Overview UCSF Berkeley Outpatient Multispecialty Clinic is an ambulatory clinical site that offers Specialty Care to Adult patients. There are multiple specialty services at this site, that are scheduled throughout the week. Radiology and Lab are located onsite. The staff includes Medical Assistants, Practice Coordinators, Licensed Vocational Nurses, and Registered Nurses.
