Job Description Lifeguard Camp Fire Sandusky County – Fremont, Ohio 2100 Baker Road, Fremont, OH Camp Fire Sandusky County is seeking a certified Head Lifeguard to oversee safe, engaging waterfront operations during the summer camp season. This leadership role ensures a secure environment for campers and staff while maintaining compliance with all camp and state regulations. Work Environment This role frequently involves working outdoors in high-sun and inclement weather environments, with exposure to loud settings and potential high-stress incidents. The position requires extended periods of standing, active movement, and water-based supervision. Key Responsibilities & Duties Supervise, support, and train lifeguard staff and waterfront team members. Ensure staff adhere to all safety rules, emergency procedures, and camp policies. Provide leadership that promotes professionalism and positive camper interactions. Safety Operations Ensure compliance with Camp Fire and ODJFS safety standards. Conduct daily inspections of waterfront areas and equipment, including PFDs, canoes, kayaks, paddle boats, and paddles. Maintain, inspect, and organize all waterfront equipment and facilities, including the boathouse. Emergency Response Lead emergency response efforts at the waterfront. Perform water rescues and administer first aid, CPR, and AED support as needed. Know, enforce, and follow all camp emergency procedures and safety guidelines. Administrative Tasks Maintain daily activity logs and incident reports. Assist with documentation required for state licensing and camp operations. Communicate concerns regarding equipment, campers, or staff directly to the Camp Director. Training & Drills Organize and lead in-service trainings, drills, and skills checks to ensure staff readiness and competence. Support ongoing professional development and required state-mandated trainings. Facility Maintenance Maintain cleanliness and organization of the waterfront and beach areas. Manage inventory of waterfront supplies and ensure proper end-of-season storage and organization. Qualifications & Skills Certifications Valid Lifeguard Certification CPR for the Professional Rescuer First Aid and AED Certifications Completion of Communicable Disease and Child Abuse Prevention training (or ability to obtain) Experience Prior experience as a lifeguard preferred Leadership or supervisory experience preferred Must meet ODJFS licensing requirements, including BCII and FBI background checks Skills Strong leadership, communication, decision-making, and organizational skills Understanding of child development and ability to work positively with youth Ability to follow written and verbal instructions Familiarity with Google Workspace preferred Physical Ability Ability to swim proficiently and perform water rescues Ability to lift 25–50+ pounds Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions for extended periods Additional Requirements Valid Ohio driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurance Ability to pass required background screenings and drug/alcohol testing Commitment to upholding Camp Fire Sandusky County policies and Standards of Conduct Benefits Free summer camp programming for children (grades K–6) for whom you are the legal guardian and who reside in your household Personal time based on weekly hours worked Join a team committed to safety, growth, and creating meaningful summer experiences for youth.
