Job Summary: The Healthcare Litigation Attorney is responsible for defending healthcare providers and organizations in complex professional liability matters within a regional law firm. This role focuses on three primary responsibilities: managing healthcare litigation cases from inception through resolution, drafting and reviewing legal documents and pleadings, and providing strategic legal analysis to support client defense. This position is critical in protecting client interests, ensuring compliance with legal standards, and delivering high-quality legal representation in a demanding litigation environment. Key Responsibilities: Manage a caseload of healthcare litigation matters, including medical malpractice and professional negligence claims Represent healthcare professionals and organizations in all phases of litigation Draft, review, and file pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents Conduct legal research and develop case strategies Participate in depositions, hearings, mediations, and trial preparation Analyze medical records, expert reports, and case evidence Communicate effectively with clients, experts, opposing counsel, and court personnel Collaborate with internal legal teams, including paralegals and support staff Maintain accurate case files and ensure compliance with court deadlines and procedures Provide updates and strategic recommendations to clients throughout the litigation process Minimum Education & Experience Requirements: Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school required Active license to practice law in a regional jurisdiction required Minimum of 5+ years of experience in healthcare litigation, medical malpractice defense, or nursing home defense Experience handling cases in state and/or federal courts required Special Requirements: Active bar admission in the applicable jurisdiction Strong understanding of healthcare regulations and professional liability laws Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines in a fast-paced environment Willingness to participate in court appearances, depositions, and trial preparation Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong legal research and writing skills Experience drafting complex legal pleadings and motions Ability to analyze medical and legal documentation in detail Strong understanding of litigation processes and procedures Excellent organizational and case management skills Effective written and verbal communication skills Ability to prioritize and manage multiple competing deadlines Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team High attention to detail and accuracy Additional Desired Characteristics: Experience defending healthcare providers, hospitals, or long-term care facilities Familiarity with expert witness coordination and medical record review Experience in trial preparation and courtroom support Interest in continued legal education and specialization in healthcare law Ability to contribute to process improvements and team efficiency Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment within a regional setting, with a collaborative team of attorneys, paralegals, and support staff. The role may require extended hours based on case demands and court schedules.
