Join Our Team as a Locum - Physician - Surgery - Hand in Lansing, MI! Are you a passionate, Board-Certified Hand Surgeon looking to make a meaningful impact at a top-tier trauma center? UMH Sparrow Lansing Main Hospital is seeking an experienced physician to provide dedicated 24-hour trauma call coverage in its Level One Trauma Center. In this pivotal role, you'll be instrumental in managing trauma-related hand cases, performing hand reconstructions, and handling various plastic surgery procedures including facial lacerations, scar revisions, skin grafts, and minor burn care. With minimal patient follow-up duties, most of your time will be spent on trauma call coverage, supporting the hospital's capacity to deliver around-the-clock care. The position runs from May 1, 2026, through December 2026, with flexible on-call responsibilities during approximately ten days each month. Required Skills Board Certified in Hand Surgery or Plastic Surgery with Hand Certification Proven experience managing trauma cases, particularly hand-related procedures Ability to respond promptly to in-person consults and surgical procedures during trauma calls Excellent clinical judgment and patient communication skills Comfortable working independently with minimal support staff during on-call shifts Nice to Have Skills: Experience working in Level I Trauma Centers and trauma response teams Familiarity with managing a diverse patient demographic (adolescents to geriatrics) Skills in general plastic surgery procedures beyond hand surgery Preferred Education and Experience: MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school Active state medical license in Michigan or eligibility to obtain one Prior on-call trauma experience preferred, but not mandatory Other Requirements: Credentialing process duration exceeds 120 days; candidates should be prepared for onboarding timelines Willingness to travel as reimbursement for flights, hotel, and car rental/mileage is provided Ability to participate in weekend and holiday call coverage, with compensation rates including holiday premiums and callback fees This role offers the chance to contribute meaningfully to a busy level-one trauma center with supportive colleagues and minimal patient follow-up.
