Title: Machine Builder Location: Elgin, IL 60123 Type: Direct Hire Shift: 1st Shift Pay: $28-32/hr + Overtime Overview: We are seeking an experienced Machine Builder to join our team in Elgin. This role is responsible for building, assembling, and installing custom equipment based on engineering drawings, work orders, and material lists. The position includes hands-on fabrication work in-house, along with up to 20% travel to customer sites for installation, troubleshooting, and modifications. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with mechanical systems and has exposure to electrical and pneumatic components. Key Responsibilities: Execute machine assembly based on prints, layouts, and work instructions Verify accuracy of parts and materials prior to assembly Build sub-assemblies including measuring, drilling, tapping, deburring, and finishing components Perform mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic connections per specifications Assemble and mount components such as seals, gaskets, and conduit onto final equipment Measure, cut, thread, and install conduit as needed Troubleshoot and repair equipment; replace or fabricate parts when necessary Modify and improve existing machinery using hand tools and shop equipment (mills, lathes, grinders, etc.) Interpret and mark up engineering drawings; document progress and escalate issues as needed Travel to customer sites (up to 20%) for installation, service, and equipment modifications Operate equipment including forklifts, hoists, and fabrication machinery Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment Support general shop and facility needs; regularly lift up to 50 lbs Qualifications: 5+ years of experience in machine building, mechanical assembly, or fabrication Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and layouts Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on tool experience Experience with hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment Comfortable working at heights (ladders, lifts) Must provide own basic tool set (standard and metric tools) Stainless steel welding experience is a plus Electrical assembly or electrician background is preferred Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, age, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or genetic information.
