Job Description
Summary :Sets up and operates conventional, special purpose, and CNC machines and machining centers to fabricate metal parts by performing the duties articulated below. The Machining SME reports to the Engineering Manager. Essential Duties & Responsibilities :Studies blueprints, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. Selects program if available or programs functions to create a part per blueprint by selecting fields to enter part and tool set-ups considering tools needed, tolerances, material type, quantity and resources available. Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining. Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines. Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media. Runs trial to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed data control. Runs machining center, including but not limited to, prepping parts, loading parts, starting and observing machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, adjusting machining controls, and unloading parts. Grinds, files and sands machined parts. Cleans machined parts. Performs first-piece and in-process inspection by checking dimensions of part per blueprint using calipers, micrometers, indicators, and tape measure. Inspects parts according to C=0 chart. Completes inspection form. Monitors machine visually and audibly to ensure equipment is operating properly. With assistance, activates controls to cut workpiece. Assists in setting up machines by retrieving and/or loading material onto machine worktable using forktruck and/or overhead crane. Performs routine preventative maintenance and general repairs on machines as required. Completes maintenance log. Performs other duties as assigned. Supervisory Duties :None. Education & Experience :High school diploma or general education degree (GED), Two years of experience at OCI using CNC Machining and Tooling Technology and overhead cranes required. Must have been a proven A machine operator with nothing more than an active verbal warning on record. Strong mechanical aptitude. Language Skills :Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with vendors and employees of organization. Math Skills :Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, and volume. Ability to calculate figures and amounts in standard and metric. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning Skills :Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
