Job Description
Why this role? Because keeping complex manufacturing assets running safely and reliably is a puzzle you love to solve. If you thrive on orchestrating proactive maintenance, turning CMMS data into action, and leading multi-skilled teams, read on. Questions you’ll answer here How do we plan and coordinate department maintenance so equipment uptime is maximized and repairs are verified effective? Which work should be scheduled for daily operations versus weekend/down days, and how do we maintain a current, accurate work log? What does a TPM-consistent maintenance plan look like for our assets, and how do we keep improving it? What are the true root causes of repetitive failures, and which corrective actions will eliminate them? Which preventive maintenance (PM) tasks are delivering value—and which need to be updated? What spare parts strategy ensures readiness without excess inventory? How do we best align with vendors, contractors, engineers, purchasing, and technical services to deliver maintenance projects? What you’ll tackle Own proactive maintenance planning and team leadership that lifts plant maintenance capabilities. Drive CMMS utilization for scheduling, tracking, and measuring performance. Plan, schedule, and coordinate manpower for maintenance and equipment repairs to cut downtime, control costs, and support production efficiency. Implement a maintenance strategy aligned with TPM philosophy. Lead root-cause analysis and deploy solutions that prevent repeat downtime. Partner with vendors and contractors to execute maintenance projects. Continuously evaluate PM effectiveness; update PMs accordingly. Define spare parts requirements and requisition what’s needed. Perform other duties as required. Who you’ll work with You will collaborate daily with plant management and supervision, maintenance personnel, vendors, engineers, purchasing, technical services, and contractors, while providing technical guidance and leadership to Multi-crafts, Electricians, and Mechanics. You will be accountable for planning and scheduling department maintenance, repair, and installation of production machinery and equipment supporting steel freight car and locomotive wheel production. Are you this person? Bachelor’s in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering—or equivalent mix of education and experience. 3–5 years in maintenance management/supervision; at least 2 years in manufacturing; supervisory experience preferred. Comfortable with Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Access; SAP and SQL (or equivalent); familiar with CAD. Available to work required schedules, cross-train as needed, and demonstrate technical proficiency in your assigned area. The challenge you’ll embrace Deliver projects on time and within budget that meet or exceed requirements. Ensure equipment functions properly, is easy to operate, and incurs minimal maintenance cost. This requires experience with the equipment and facilities used to produce steel freight car and locomotive wheels; fluency across design, mechanical, and electrical engineering; and the interpersonal skills to partner with a wide range of contributors to finish projects successfully.
