Summary The Maintenance Worker II - Parks is responsible for performing a variety of tasks to support the maintenance and operations of Park and Recreation buildings, grounds, open spaces, trails, and parks.This position is assigned to perform park and landscape maintenance duties at the Muriel Sahlin Arboretum and other park locations during the growing season and performs general park maintenance duties during the winter months.Work is performed under the direction of the Parks Superintendent.Essential Duties Responsibilities The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation.The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.Seasonal (Late Spring-Early Fall) Perform horticultural and landscape maintenance duties at the Muriel Sahlin Arboretum including work in formal gardens, herbaceous plant borders, shrub beds, Community Orchard, and other designated areas.Duties include preparing planting areas, installing plant materials, and maintaining landscaped spaces using established practices and procedures.Assist with coordination of landscape design, plant selection, and site installation.Selects plant materials appropriate for site conditions to maintain healthy and attractive garden areas.Complete project duties related to site preparation and installation, including for volunteer projects.Apply fertilizer, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, and other approved treatments in accordance with established procedures and safety guidelines to support plant health and safe public use of park spaces.Monitor herbaceous and woody plant material, ornamental trees, shrubs and grasses for signs of insects, disease, weather damage, or nutrient issues and work with supervisory staff to address.Understand and effectively implement established Integrated Pest Management practices as directed to support health plant material and sustainable landscape maintenance.Work with volunteers to complete daily tasks and special projects, including planning project assignments.Assist with organizing and coordinating daily work activities in assigned garden areas including irrigation, soil preparation, pruning, transplanting, mulching, planting, and weeding.Maintain, troubleshoot, adjust, and perform minor repairs to park facilities and landscape features including turf areas, irrigation systems, fountains, garden structures, and related equipment.Assists Parkkeepers, Seasonal Park Maintenance Workers and Seasonal Gardeners regarding horticultural best management practices.Assist and support volunteers with planting, transplanting, dividing, and mulching activities to help ensure a positive volunteer experience.Complete other duties and special projects as assigned.Seasonal (Late Fall - Early Spring) Snow removal from sidewalks, park trails, parking lots, ice rinks, and buildings.General building and park shelter maintenance, including custodial and City-wide trash removal.Perform inspections of playgrounds and other park amenities.Provide maintenance and other support for Parks and Recreation and Citywide special events.Direct and assist seasonal staff and volunteers.Work with contractors and vendors.Assist other departments and employees, as necessary.Communicate with residents and other park users regarding maintenance needs.Continually show respect for diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and interests.Exhibit sensitivity to the needs of diverse audiences in all duties performed on behalf of the City to support Roseville in building and sustaining an inclusive and equitable working environment and community.Perform other job-related duties as assigned.Required Skills/Experience/Education High School Diploma or GED.Minimum of one (1) year of experience in park maintenance or a related field, with some experience with landscape planting and garden maintenance.Ability to maintain a CDL.Ability to obtain a Certified Pool Operator and Tree Inspector Certification within the first six months of employment.Physical Demands & Work Environment The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of the job.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.This position requires employee to collaborate with a team, independently, and have continuous contact with the public.It has a high level of detail, pressure deadlines, and has frequent noise.Employee will work near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions, is frequently exposed to wet, humid, hot, or cold conditions and may perform duties involving fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration.The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.Approximately 70% of the time this p
