Under general supervision, perform a variety of maintenance and repair duties at the fully skilled level in one or more of the City Maintenance Divisions/Sections.Series Concept:1.Maintenance Worker II (MWII) is the fully skilled working level in the Maintenance Worker Series which consists of the classifications of Maintenance Worker I, Maintenance Worker II, Field Crew Leader, and Lead Worker.2.Maintenance Workers II are expected to be fully skilled in the tasks of a particular maintenance function, and operate all necessary hand/power tools and equipment with sufficient skill to independently perform tasks.3.Some incumbents may receive assignments focused on one or two areas of particular skill, ability, or work needs.4.Workers are expected to notice potential improvements in procedures and make correction recommendations to senior staff.5.Incumbents implement the overall goals and mission of the project and take initiative to complete work in a safe, orderly, and high quality manner.6.Maintenance Workers II are often called upon to share knowledge and teach necessary skills to co-workers and/or organize the work of a particular assignment or project involving others.7.Some positions may be regularly assigned to more than one Section.Street Operations in Public Works Transportation is looking to fill three (3) vacant Maintenance Worker II positions.They are full-time, AFSCME represented positions that will be utilized in all areas of our maintenance operations.See attached job announcement.The ideal candidate we are looking for should have the following skills and Experience:Minimum 2-year experience in pouring and finishing concrete preferred.Experience in setting up concrete forms and sidewalk maintenance preferred.Experience in street and rights-of-way maintenance operations and asphalt work.Ability to follow instructions and complete assigned tasks.Ability to work as a member of a service-oriented team.Working knowledge of street maintenance equipment.Ability to work emergency and on-call shifts.To Apply Please submit your application with a letter of interest describing how, based on your work experience, you meet the above-listed Ideal Candidate Profile of this position.Your letter should be no more than two pages.This is a continuous job posting until all three (3) vacancies are filled.To be considered in the first round of applicants, please apply within two (2) weeks of the job posting date.If you have questions about this position and/or requirements, please contact Sarah Greene, at (360) 753-8540 or sgreene@ci.olympia.wa.us.Essential Functions SPECIALTY CRITERIA l) PARK MAINTENANCE Examples of Duties:1.Perform maintenance and repair duties in several trades in the construction, alteration, maintenance and repair of municipal park and recreation facilities, grounds and equipment.2.Read blueprints.3.Install, repair and maintain automatic irrigation systems.4.Punctual, regular and reliable attendance is essential for successful job performance.2) WATER DISTRIBUTION Examples of Duties:1.Responsible for the general maintenance and repair the City's water distribution system.2.Skilled operation of heavy duty equipment and vehicles.3.Repair broken lines or leaks in service lines.4.Resolve field conflicts with contractors and others as necessary.5.Install and maintain water hydrants.6.Research and update as-built files to facilitate map updates.7.Diagnose operation problems, plan and complete corrective action.8.Respond to water system breakdowns and service calls on 24-hour year around basis.9.Punctual, regular and reliable attendance is essential for successful job performance.3) CROSS CONNECTION SPECIALIST:Examples of Duties:1.In addition to the responsibilities and skills listed under Water Distribution, responsible for the development, implementation, regulation, maintenance, inspection, and testing of the City's Cross-Connection Program.2.Develop public and customer service information program.3.Ensure the City fully complies with State of Washington and SDWA requirements in maintaining a cross-connection program.4.Ensures all policy guidelines, City codes, plan review processes, Water System Standards, Fire codes and UPC codes are met.5.Punctual, regular and reliable attendance is essential for successful job performance.4) STORM AND WASTE WATER COLLECTION Examples of Duties:1.Knowledge and experience in Closed Circuit Television (CCTV).2.Maintenance and repair of all storm and sanitary sewer lines, including but not limited to:main lines, maintenance holes, valves, air relief valves, pig ports, clean outs, catch basins, ditches, culverts, pond bar grates and control structures.3.Research and create as-built files to facilitate map updates.4.Operate and maintain pump station grounds, structures, and STEP systems.5.Skilled operation of heavy duty equipment and vehicles.6.Must be able to periodically take on-call 24 hour status for all waste water and stormwater system issues and be on the job
