Job Description
Winona County, MN Law Enforcement Transport Officer This position offers flexible scheduling with a great opportunity to learn about and work in all areas of corrections and the criminal justice system. This position offers hands-on experience transporting inmates, assisting in the jail, court hearings, and many other ancillary functions and training. Winona County is accepting applications for this part-time, on-call position, with potential full-time hours, until the position is filled; however, preference will be given to those that apply by May 2, 2024. This position starts at $22.47/hour (DOQ) with advancement up to $29.81/hour. On-call pay starts at $1.75/hour. Required to schedule at least four, 12-hour shifts (4:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; 4:00 p.m. - 4:00 a.m.) per month. Self-scheduling available. Must be able to report to the Law Enforcement Center within one hour if called in to work. Under close supervision of the Jail Administrator, an employee in this class performs law enforcement work including ancillary County Jail functions. Responsible for transporting inmates. Performs related work as required. This work may involve an element of personal danger. Examples of duties include Transporting prisoners to and from court hearings, to medical and other facilities as necessary. Cleaning transport vehicles. Receiving training in applicable laws and ordinances and in law enforcement principles and procedures as they relate to the duties of the Transport Officer. Preparing reports as needed. Staffing magnetometer and perform security functions as assigned. Any other duties as assigned. Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to high school graduation. A valid driver's license and the ability to drive an automobile safely and efficiently. Must be a minimum of eighteen years of age. Ability to exhibit mature judgment and imagination. Ability to defend self and others in instances of personal danger. Ability to deal with prisoners and the public with tact and impartiality. Ability to perform work requiring good physical condition. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, law enforcement, other agencies, and the public. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Must pass a personal background investigation. Benefits include: PERA (8.75%) Medicare (1.45%) Social Security (6.2%) Earned sick and safe time will be earned at a rate of one (1) hour for every 30 hours worked, up to 48 hours a year.
