ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs breast imaging and bone density procedures. Corroborates patient's clinical history with procedure, ensuring information is documented and available for use by the radiologist. Prepares the patient for procedures, providing instruction to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety. Selects and operates imaging equipment, image capture devices and accessory devices to successfully perform procedures. Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort. Immobilizes patients as required for appropriate examination, explaining the need for breast compression during mammography. Determines exposure factors. Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others. Evaluates images for technical quality, ensuring proper identification is recorded. Uses radiology information systems, including PACS, completes all required records and reports, and submits images for physician review and interpretation. Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures. Verifies informed consent for interventional procedures as required. Assists radiologist and physicians during procedures, performs breast specimen radiography as assigned. Practices aseptic technique as necessary. If assigned to perform radiographer duties: Prepares and administers contrast media as appropriate to procedures performed; Performs non-interpretive fluoroscopic procedures under physician supervision and in compliance with policy. Performs surgical and portable radiographic exams. Initiates basic life support action when necessary. Provides patient education. Provides input for supply and equipment decisions, maintains control of inventory
